i now have a squeek

no i have got rid of the knock i have found a squeek

only noticed it a few times just after i have started the car while still stood out side it it makes a funny eeeeeeeeking noise kinda quiet but can hear it

kinda sounds like a mouse having its testicals nibbled by a cat

Hi,

I had the same squeeking sound in my car... It came from the right side of the engine bay, and it was the wheel thingy (sorry, cant remeber how its called in english...) where one of the belts is, it was bad as it could have slipped the belt and it could tangle with the cambelt...

Youll find that with the 172, every squeak will hide a rattle, and every rattle will hide a squeak. This means that no matter how many rattles you track down, therell always be another one to replace it. Its a design feature to help hide other rattles.

Ye its probably the alternater belt slipping. Happens in cold/wet weather sometimes, if it gets bad you may need to move the alternator to tighten the belt.

aux belt is spring tensioned.maybe a weak tensioner or noisy idler wheel/pulley.

Hi,

I think the "wheel thingy" i mentioned earlier its a pulley, if it is, then when it happened to me i was due to a track of the pulley that broke and the aux belt moved out of place, with luck it didnt got tangled with the cambelt!
