I remember when i wanted a 172

  LY V6 with Recaros
I still love my 182, I'm always looking at other cars, but I know I'd miss it too much if I sold it now coz it's so much fun! If I do ever get bored of it I drive my boyfriends 1.2 for a few days, then I realise how good the 182 is!

  Valver
Cant afford it? Sell it to me for a knock down price :D

Edit: Its not that 172 would be any faster than my current car, but I love the looks and the, well, new-ness it has over a Valver lol.

you have a valver... and dont think a 172 would be any faster?

:quiet:

Well no, couple of my mates have 172 ff's and in a straight line theres nothing in it....never raced a cup though, must be a big difference I guess

Mine's just a car to me with plenty of punch for overtaking... I just like the way it looks to be honest. The power just makes it nice and easy to drive.

On my 2nd RS...love it..my 182 was a peach but the R27 is even better...

It does make you feel special when you get the thumbs up from someone in a GT3 or the likes..

I've had my 172 FF for almost 3 years now, I always wanted a Naples Red or Tungy Grey valver since I bought my 91 1.4 RT as my first car about 6 years ago, but when the time came round and I could afford a better car I plumped for a Flame Red FF 172. 182's were new on the scene and so I just went for a 172 as I didn't want to lose much money on the value of it. Perhaps looking back now I should have bought a LY 182 but never mind!

Anyway, because of owning this car I am pretty skint most of the time, I have spent a lot on this car, servicing, repairs, a few mods (which have now gone as I prefer it standard for now) lets not forget bloody tax, insurance and petrol!!! When you hover around in second gear at about 4.5k and then nail it, well, that gives me enough of a smile to forget about how much I pay for it. When this thing was on coilovers I used to love dry open roads and going for blasts.

Its not the best built car, it doesn't look the best, it certainly is not the fastest, it doesn't corner as well as some other hot hatches, but for what you pay it certainly represents good value imo. There are definitely better cars out there but £ for £ this is good enough and I am certainly attached to it now. I can pootle around town without getting much attention (stealth exhaust, doesn't sound even remotely loud unless you hoon it) and get decent mpg for a 2.0 petrol or give it some stick and it comes back for more. They aren't as common as muck, and some people still give it a bit of a look now and again. If I give her a good clean she still looks decent for a car that is approaching 7 years old, but when she is dirty then she just looks like a filthly ****, which I um, like...

I could sell up, buy an oil burner, clear some debts and probably be better off, but I just can't.

iam in the process of getting rid of my 182, main reasons is it costs me to much money (tax, insurance, petrol) and i care about it to much allways worrying where i park it but this has got to me so its going, i have got a m reg 1.2 clio cost £500, cheap insurance/tax dont care where i park it. and gettin a motorbike in summer and can still save a load of money for a house lol

Think my 172's pretty dull (despite RS Tuning remap) but it's all I can afford at the moment. Did prefer my old Williams but it cost more to run, boo.

  Recaro'd 182
When ever i think, this is costing to much in fuel etc. I get in go for a spin and it puts a smile back on my face every time.
Love it.

I think for the money you cant go wrong! Ive found diff cars ive had I enjoy in different ways - the elise was awesome on smooth back roads, the cooper s's were good on most roads and felt solid (on down side felt a bit heavy) and the clio is a lot of fun but maybe feels a little on the cheap side sometimes (interior build quality)

For 5k (which id imagine would buy you a decent 172) I cant think what else you could get which would be as much fun (whilst still being fairly new and sensible in terms of running costs) :)

Sorry for the rambling reply!

I've had mine since new, December 2003, 96,000 miles ago.

As a package, for both on road usability and track capability, at the cost of ownership there's nothing that comes remotely close.

I genuinely 100% love mine.

I ache for it when I'm on holiday, dream about it, and can think about nothing else other than giving it a right good kicking when I get back.

i loved my 172, but when i drove the valver it was so much better imo, just needed more power. now its got the 172 lump, its perfect. i find myself slowing down to make a gap to accelerate all over again:eek:

I cant remember...

I did have some good times with the 182, but it's been in the garage for a long time now and i have a ford escort 1.6 thingy to drive around in.

The current car is for getting from a to b and I dont go for little rides through the country with it.

Can't wait to get the tubby plaything back though!!! :D
