I thought 2118s were meant to be heavy?

Playing around with wheels this weekend. Though I'd weigh a few of the different combinations I have.

To my surprise the 2118s I have are actually lighter than the OZ F1s I have. I was expecting them to be a good few kilos heavier, not lighter.

2118s wrapped in RSR semi slicks. F1s wrapped in Toyo R1R. Both 27psi.

I've got some F1s wrapped in 888s too so I'll weigh them and see how they compare..

Anyone else surprised at this?

I'm pretty sure you could get them in magnesium and normal alloy material with the magnesium ones being pretty light.

I had heard this before. But thought they were super rare. Be very surprised if these were though.

Maybe RSR are just super light and R1Rs are very heavy. Although I would have also though this to be the other way around.

tyres vary massively in weight , track biased stuff with more stiffness in the sidewall are much heavier so you should weigh the wheels alone .
crossply based track tyres are much much lighter (avon ACB 10)

I like you added they were both at 27 psi LOL

I thought I better try and get some consistency between them in there lol.

I agree with what you're saying though.

But that would mean without the tyres, the 2118s would be even lighter still than the F1s. The 2118s have the supposedly heavy track tyres on them.

Remember theres about 3/4 different offset variants of the 2118(2020) for clios. Im sure even between the alluminium alloy ones there'd be a decent differance. My 'heavy duty' Palmer spec ones are pretty much iirc about same weight as my standard Turinis.

I was always under the impression 2118's were a light weight racing wheel...

Interesting hmmmm. Both these wheels have the same offset I believe.

Bare Oz f1 is 7.7 kg, bare 2118 is 7.2 or 7.4 dependant on offset

Cheers, that's surprising too. I was always under the impression the OZ F1s were light in comparison to other wheels. Hence why they buckle so easily. And that the reason 2118s rarely buckle is because they're so much heavier. How wrong I was lol.

Seems like they are both heavy! I would consider a (bare) reasonably light wheel to be between 5-6kg (such pro race/ultraleggera), so at closer to 8, the OZs aren't really the best comparison.
Tyre purpose doesn't always translate to weight, I had some old Avon road tyres and they weighed alot more than some Yoko A032s track tyres I had in a similar size.

Don't always believe manufacturer's figures for wheels either, it is often for a bare wheel with the maximum number of studs, largest centre bore and minimum offset. So what you actually receive is a heavier wheel.

My TD Pro Race are 0.5kg heavier per wheel than the advertised weight.

Also with a wheel like the OZ F1 having an offset of ET43 means a lot of people run spacers with them, you need to account for the weight of the spacers too to give a representative weight.
