ibm 306m 1u server 2k3 install issues

i have two 306m servers each with a 1tb sata disk in them one installs 2k3 fine from a vlm disk the second says no disk in the machine in the 2k3 setup BUT in the bios it does see it. if i remove teh disk from teh other server it starts to boot windows but then craps out and just restarts in a infinate loop

they should be exactly the same config wise 8849pcw's

Faulty ram ? check bios settings are correct ?

If both servers are identical and you doing doing the same for both the only remaining possibility is a hardware fault.

Its great when its something simple.

What you doing with the servers ?

ones just been used as a dc and the other im using as a epo/vnc/vml/wsus/imaging server lol

their current setup has exchange on the same box as their dc and it caused huge problems in our DR testing (i told them it would when we bought the boxes years ago but only now they listen)

Ah, good stuff.

Ye its all about the money.. then when they come back and complain you have to remind them about that money they wanted to save last year ;)

Thankfully the director in my company actually listens and has a bit of I.T. background.. so when I put a 5 figure order in he is normally ok with it !

Just been doing a new image for my WDS server, XP SP3 with NET2.0 SP2, NET3.0SP2 and NET3.5 SP1 with all hotfixes applied and all the drivers for our systems. You know how tedious it is to get all the hotfixes !! millions of them lol !

  Better than yours. C*nt.

Liking Vista/Server 2008 SP2 at the moment - just IE8 to install and a 'compatibility pack' update and it's all done.

No matter how hard you try, there always seems to be one or two updates that linger after doing a slipstreamed image.

Ah, that'll do it. XP/2003 don't do native AHCI so you have to do F6 (or slipstream the drivers).

You *HAVE* to install the drivers at F6 install stage (or spend a long time messing with the registry and system files).

Vista is easy to do hotfixes now though isn't it ? they have properly designed the hotfixes to integrate correctly, post SP3 on XP certainly is anyway.

I haven't really spent a lot of time with Vista as I control the software within my company and I've already said we wont be touching Vista, will probably jump to Windows 7 as it shaping up to be good. I am missing some of the advancements in AD policy controls though, especially the ability to allow hardware installations based on UID.

Just small things like that I would like back ported to XP, but no matter.

As for sata drivers, ye you can slipstream them into the image avoiding the need to F6.
