ICE ADVICE

  Clio 1.2 8v (2002)
Hi

I'm looking to upgrade the standard system in my car. I've decided on the headunit below but I'm unsure of what components to go for.

I can see that there's alot of you who know what you're talking about when it comes to this matter so I won't mention 6x9's in the back.

Just wondering if you could give me some advice cos I've been told that I'll need an external amp as the one in the headunit won't be enough.

Not too sure on my budget at the moment, hope you can help?

Not a bad wee HU you've chosen there :)

As for components it depends on budget & what size you want

Standard 13cm/5.25" or 17cm/6.5" with some modifications to your doorcard

I'd prefer 13cm components and the maximum I'm looking to spend is between £50-£150.

What would you guys recommend?

you dont have to amp if you dont want to,pheonix golds can be bought 100 odd and infinity range starts at 50 quid odd,all depends what you wanna pay

I'm looking for a set that sound good and are value for money but without hearing them for myself I'm unsure of what to go for as would a set that cost £150 be any different to a set that cost £50 or £100?

If anyone would recommend components that they've got that would be great.

Cheers. They do look they'll do a good job. What about phoenix gold and rainbow as I've heard they're the best manufacturers to go for?

Cheers. Would these be ok using the HU like the pioneers or would they need an amp?

You could use the headunit but you would be suprised how much better the sound quality will be with using an amp

if your budget is that low and you are unsure about the amp I would advise that you decide on a good set of 13cm components first with some sound deadening in the door panels.

Then you can add an amp to your setup at another time if you want to

Thanks for all the advice. Just one last question, I've seen the HU i want to get on an american website for alot less. Is it worth it or would it be best to pay more for the UK version?

iirc american models have a different fm frequency so itll only have a proportion of the frequency

dont forget you might get taxed on the shipping as its from outside of the eu so might not be worth it

Plus if anything goes wrong with the american one, Alpine Europe won't fix it so you will be out a fortune sending it back/forward.

I was going to get my Alpine HU online to save around £100 but I opted for the friendly counter service instead :)

Personally would take out the rear speakers and spend the £200 on a set of Rainbow comps, i have always preferred no soudn coming from behind me. Also am biased towards Rainbow - only speakers have and will use.

yep take out rears, you aint gonna be in the back so your only gonna lose the sound stage in the front :)

spend the extra on better comps or put it towards a sub and amp
