ICE Problem (no sound)

Ive got a sub and components in my car rubbing from a Legacy amp.

Last night all was working fine, this morning and the radio comes on for a second and then cuts out.

When you put the stereo in or take it out, the sub makes a kind of popping noise.

Surely it cant be anything serious because there is sound for a second, and it was working fine yesterday.

Checked the fuses on the amp, theyre fine.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Sorry, youre gonna have to tell me what to do.

Bit dense with anything technical.

did u wire up the amp??

looks as if its just a prob with the amps power

so either positive or negative problem

most of the time it will be caused by the earth, bad earthing point

so maybe your earth has moved or come loose maybe??

take a look at the amp and see where the black cable goes to from it, that will be the earth cable, check its secured nicely to something, maybe give it a little wiggle

also check all other connections to the amp

ermm, possible to take any pics if it doesnt work??? hard to work blind and explain, depends really how much knowledge you have, but most prob an earth problem, simple as pie hopefully

Nope got it wired up by an ICE company, gonna go and have a fiddle around with it in a minute then.

Black cable eh?

Ill take some pics if it doesnt start working.

Cheers.

yep, the amp will have a red cable going to it, the power

black cable, the earth, usually the problem

small blue one, remote cable from the headunit to tell the amp to come on and go off etc

ermm, then RCA points, two fairly big connections usually away from power and earth that also go to the headunit, then your small speaker cables

it sounds like a power problem so hopefully just not earthed very well

if its not working then take a pic of the amp and where the cables are and also where the earth cable is connected to on the car body

hmmm cant really tell

tbh if its not far id go to where it was done and tell them u had it done there etc and id expect them to do it for free and have it all sorted in 5 minutes

aslong as its something simple like the earth anyway

to be honest i dont like the look of those cables(the way they are terminated and the size looks a bit suspect)

40a worth of fuses should really be 8 awg(fecking yanks)

No Idea what the above meeant, lol.

Anyway, took it to the place, they said the amp was broke and replaced it, with http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a61/thedeeg/NewAmp.jpgthis one. More Powerful, dunno if it is a better AMP or not tho.

Dont know enough about this sort of thing, just wanted it to sound good.

He said this was better for the Fronts, but shouldnt lose to much on the bass.

Is it not the best work?

TBH, i needed it done in a hurry and fairly cheaply, so spose you get what you pay for.

Unfortunately, its like anything you dont know about, easy to be conned.

Not that arsed, it works again now, if it stops working again within the year, it will get taken back again and I will have another new amp. And so on.

Its not mounted on a parcel shelf, its mounted on the back of the seat, with the front facing the boot.

the earth one ends in those crimp things.

Are Legacy that bad?

Know what to avoid next time then, lol.

ah, from the pic, looks like its on the shelf, but now i look at it again, i can see it properly

yes legacy are poor amps

id look into getting a new earth lead installed as well too

Like I say, done and dusted now with a new amp.

If it happens again, will just go back and ask for a different amp.

It sounds right for now, rattles the boot of a clio enough for my liking, lol.
