Idle Control Valve 172

Hi guys,

I have a stalling problem and I am told that the idle valve is the culprit. Am I correct in thinking that this can be cleaned rather than replaced? If so, can anyone tell me where it is in the engine bay and whether this is an easy DIY thing to do.

What year is it? If its a Ph2 then it won't have an ISCV.

It's in the throttle body.

Yes, it can be cleaned. I think someone on here did a guide so check that section. You will need some carburettor cleaner spray for both the ICV and the throttle body. You have to take them both off the car to do it = quite easy.

not necessarily. Ph1 172 has cable throttle and an idle control valve on tha back of the plenum

Correct, idle control valve on a ph 1 is at the back right of the cam cover, about £50 for a new one from memory!

now im not sure if i have the same problem here. is it when you accelerate hard/ hardish lol the car then just cuts out. no judder nothing. the revs just drop off
