Idle speed high

  Renault Clio 1.2
I turned on the ignition on my Clio 1.2 "V" reg this morning and the idle speed was like I had my foot half way down on the accelerator pedal. I could drive it without putting my foot on the accelerator. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I was hoping to go away for Easter but cant now and all the local garages are fully booked until next Wednesday. The accelerator cable is not caught on anything.

Possibly the ICV (idle control valve) Not familiar with the 1.2 but if you can locate it, try cleaning it up and re-fitting it.

Yes, the throttle body is fine. It must be an electronic component but dont know how to check. Will probably leave it to the experts.

well if it is definitely closing all the way and your accelerator cable is moving freely and not sticking anywhere, as said above ^^ give your idle control valve a bit of a clean and check any hoses coming off your inlet manifold for holes/splits/poor connections. Could also try spraying wd40 around the area and if your revs alter on one particular bit you've found your air leak

where abouts are you?

Hi again,
A friend of mine suggested disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting it and seeing if that would sort it out. I didnt hold out much hope but did so and it worked. It is running as normal now. It must have been a glitch in some electronic component. Have you heard of this before?
Thanks anyway
Tim
