But I never yearned for a hatch when I was younger.

I wanted a saloon or an estate. :(

They're not the same. The 2.6 Estate was uber rare. Something like 35 of them ever made.

hm see what you mean, cat c previously :/ Dad had the saloon one as a company car but got shot because it was too quick for him and attracted police attention, mainly because the police in question wanted to have a look at the car haha

(ps dad has no interest in cars... at all!)

Ideally i'd like a 2.6 Saloon or estate (estate preferably) GSI, in that nice dark blue pearl or silver. Completely standard. Facelift and as late as possible. Like a 52 plate.

Perfect family car!

I'm pretty sure my mate bought an estate GSI the other day for £600.00 on a 52 plate. Had been stood a year and went straight through it's mot. He's given it to his dad who moaning about 16 mpg he's currently getting.

You can get vectra's rather cheap as they rot quicker then a toilet flushing.

I have had my Vectra 2.5 V6 Supertouring for around 4 years now and the problems they have are unreal.

Brake pipes are bad and its a big job.
Trailing arm bushes
Rose joint bushes

The one good thing about the Vectra B as you can get so many bits form so many models and interchange them

Massively over priced. Even with that low mileage.

I wouldn't have another. Rust buckets, and expensive to maintain. Parts are dirt cheap, but they fail so often.

Massively overpriced?! Can you explain your train of thought? Bearing in mind someone has already made it clear they are willing to pay that??

It's a Vectra for a start. Having owned mine for 5 and a half years, I would never, ever, pay that much for one.

Just because someone is willing to pay that much for it, doesn't make it a good price.
There's a legendary thread on VVOC, of someone who sold one for £10k only a year or so back. Absolutely mental.

They're cheaply built, will rust before your eyes, and granted you may find a good one, but you will experience at least 1 big bill in your ownership. I know.

So you're saying that despite the fact someones willing to pay that for it, its not worth it?!

What something is worth is down to an opinion. Opinions vary and prices vary accordingly.

Hahaha. In your opinion Daniel. You can pick up Vectra C's now for less than that.

Plus don't these fall into the ridiculous tax bracket too?

Ridiculous tax bracket is for cars reg'd 2006 onwards.

I've had Vectra C's. I've had a GSI, a cdti 16v, i've had a 2.2 Sri (best one imo!) and even a crappy 1.8 ls.

But they're not Vectra B saloon/estate 2.6 Gsi's are they. Which are special.

£270 a year is nothing! A clio costs nearly that.

But a clio doesn't have a V6 and can't tow a trailer.

Mine doesn't! Or won't at least. Hehe.

The clio will handle better out the box though, whereas the Vectra needs money throwing at it.

I can see where you're coming from though. The estates were my fave. My 2.5 was pretty good, but still, went wrong more than a car should.

I've got a track car. Handling isn't a priority when trying to tow a trailer and/or filling it up with stuff to go on holiday.

I've got a toyota D4D estate 2.2. Don't like it.

I've got a Saab 93 1.9tdi. Don't like it.

I've got enough VAG's to last me until 2099.

My point is, I loved those cars when I was younger. They were iconic back then. TO find one in that condition, in an estate or saloon, would make me happy.

Yes, MSD Vectras are immense!

How does that 2.6 sound without a centre silencer, that's what I'm pondering

Depends what you use. Remus centres (like I have on my 2.5) are quite raspy, but once warmed up they're not bad.

2.6 engine note is pretty much the same really. Depends on the backbox too. Most go for the Double D as the Letterbox is a bit more restricted.
Magnex is a popular centre section replacement.
