Not a big fan of this.

Japan provides plenty of other excellent engine options without blaspheming it with some American obscenity.

Different yes, Good no.

IMO.

It's like the numpties that replace the EPIC 13b Rotary engine in the RX7 with a 'Big 'oll V8'.

Why just why.

Because the rx7 lump is a ticking time bomb and the v8 offers reliability and a flat torque curve

please suck my left nut lol! there is nothing "ticking timebomb" about a rotary... just dickheads that have no mechanical sympathy or people that spread internet bullshit lol!

200sx's didn't. some Jap 180sx's did (not all, just the inferior ones ;) )

The CA is a gorgeous engine, Espeically to work on, I rebuilt 1 a few years back as Danny knows and was amazed how easy it was to work on and how well engineered they are.

clearly your knowledge is superior to mine... just like you claiming some 200sx s13's have sr20's in them...

do you actually know anyone that has had 13b engine? i mean besides your mates uncles mate from down the pub that has a limp and a glass eye lol?

the so called guidance for a rebuild on a rotary is 60k miles...

most people do 10k miles in a year

so thats 6 years between rebuilds....

now lets look at other engines that spin at 9krpm and last longer that are that small and put out that much power.... erm there are none lol! eve a skyline at any level of tune running a rb26dett would be lucky to see 60k if they are driven hard...

i have done nearly 12k in my rx7... biggest problem i had... fucked clutch which was my fault.

so again, i would do more research!

I sourced an Turbo II FC for a good friend of mine a few years back and according to him it was the best car he'd ever had and completely changed his automotive outlook even to this day, during the 2 years he owned it, it didnt break down once or ever let him down, only trouble he had was his own fault for flooding it !

It was blindingly quick, handled awesomely and was extremely well built/specced.

Another friend of mine has just bought an NA FC, and quite frankly it gorgeous, again no faults, runs like a dream, and its got reasonably high miles.

Like anything, you look after it, it will look after you.

lol well clearly not a reputable company... as pretty much all the main builders in the uk offer warrantees! for instance, hayward rotary now offer a 2 year warrantee or 24k miles which ever comes up first..

so if anything goes wrong in that time you get a free rebuild! same as dragon, same as wgt, same as jaydee lol...

uprated tips?! pretty much no builder recomends anything other than stock mazda tips as the "uprated" ones give trouble.... so im guessing he went to a s**t builder or did something to void the warrantee...

people who sell them because they are unreliable... 99% of the time is because they think "brap yeh a rx7 innit they well sick..." buy them and realise how much they cost to run!

mine isnt a money pit... everything on mine that i have done has been to put aftermarket or uprated parts on it... i have had nothing fail on it and i know of 2 clubs full of members that would say the same lol!

Some S13's did come with the SR20DET engine however it is not the same sr20 thats in the s14 or 15's

erm not in 200sx guise they didnt, there was never a 200sx s13 with a sr20det from the factory...

there were a few 180sx's that came in the s13 shape that had them, and it was a red top sr20 fitted with a low inlet manifold... there isnt much i dont know about sbodys :p

Regardless, the RX7 is probably the best looking car to emerge from Japan. And I loved my old mans FC. Delivered to the house on a flatbed, brand spankers.

As with all big power cars most people end up reverting to a V8. Look at all the big Manufacturers these days - they've all got a V8 in there line up.

You never see a top fuel dragster running a 6 cyl Skyline lump ? Why ? .....because they cant deliver the goods.

Your joking right ?

You sound like 1 of the 'there ain't no replacement for displacement' crew.

Is that why most all the big power jap cars are either 2JZ GTE or RB26 6 cyl lumps.

Dont get me wrong there is definately a place for the Big V8's but JDM just isnt it. I wouldnt put an RB into a Camaro, same as a V8 shouldnt be sitting in an RX7.

No im not joking

And you sound like one of the stereotypical playstation generation that has been hypnotised by Sony - Bet your garage on GT3 is full of cars from the land of the rising sun.

You will get a hell of a lot more power form a small block 351 or a big block 427 / 454 than a RB26 lump - trust me. The Yanks were pushing out 650 hp engines from the factory back in the early 60's whilst japan were still rubbing themselves with sun tan lotion.

You post me a vid of a top fuel dragster running a jap 6 potter in under 4.5 seconds and i will eat my words.

And if im not mistaken a Chevrolet has just handed Nissan its arse at the Nurburgring - so they handle as well ;)

Jap = Boost

Yank = Big blocks with large displacement

A big block with displacement will always be more reliable than a 4/6 pot with a turbo.

Why do you think big engines do mega mileage. Wont find a liner or a supra doing 200k without a rebuild

Please dont insult me: Playstaion generation flol, you have no idea how old I am or what automotive experience I have. I dont even own a playstation :p

Top Dragsters are irrelevant I think your completely missing the point here, they are totally different to the cars we drive, ie run on nitro etc etc... So where Dragsters came into this I really dont know !

Back to the real world, the point is V8's arent the be all and end all, far from. Plenty of other engine options out there that are far more suited to the task imo.

Like I said tho, I love my V8's as much as anybody but they just dont have a place in JDM metal imo.
