If you want a Spare Wheel for your 182...

LOL, I have to sing, on behalf of all 172 owners, to all 182 owners..

"Whats it like to have no spaaaare? Whaaats it like to have no spare?"

  Yaris Hybrid

I said this in another thread but here goes again.

If you get puncture and change the wheel a number of things happen (bear in mind its always pissing down with rain when you get a flat):

1, your nice sparkling unused spare wheel gets all filthy.

2, your nice expensive clothes get filthy.

3, due to 2, your seats get filthy.

4, your hands get filthy.

5, due to (4,) your steering wheel and gear knob get filthy.

6, your nice clean boot gets filthy from the wet mucky punctured wheel.

Therefore you might as well just carry a footpump, put some air in the tyre and drive to the nearest garage. Rare to get a puncture that deflates too quickly for the above solution. I never had any trouble getting to the dealers by which time it had lost about 1psi which is no trouble at all. For slightly quicker punctures you can carry some of that foam crap.

If I had a 172 I would probably pull the spare out.

I see the point Toypop... I would avoid changing wheel if I could....

BUT it depends on your miles, where you are, and what time!

Ive driven from Somerset to Scotland & France too many times to do it without a spare (which I actually used in the three months I had the car)...

What on earth was a pipe doing in the middle of the M20 anyway?!!???

For 4 and 5, you should at least carry 1 set of disposable gloves in the car for any mechanical mishaps, so useful, especially when say youre on the way to an interview and the exhaust midsection falls off, in the rain.

Link to my post in the for sale section. Hope you dont mind.

Thanks,

Oms.

The 182 doesnt even have a wheel well so the spare wheel would have to just sit in the boot not held down (would burst through back seats in a emergency stop and seriously injure/kill any passengers)

Call the f00king AA....s!mple!!!!

thats ok as long as you dont try and use the "free" AA cover you get when u buy the 182 as this basic cover you get does not cover puncturs and they will not come out to you LOL.

you can upgrade but iv no idea how much this costs

it costs £50, I took it out for the reasons given above. Its £50 for the full3 years and covers no fuel, locked keys punctures etc

Not in an emergency stop.... not in a front ender....

Poss in a rear ender hard enough to push the wheel into the back seats (ouch!).

thats not bad really for £50 i might do it also :)

best getting it early on though as it lasts as long as the standard aa cover so even if you got it in year 2 it would cost you £50 and run out at the same time.

Nah, Id rather have a spare. for instance, last Monday I went to my car to find I had a flat. Now I work in London, I take the train, so the only time I could get to the tyre place was the following Saturday. So if I hadnt have had a spare Id not be able to drive my car.

Eh? im at a loss here??

The 182 ,as said, has no spare wheel well. A Wheel & Tyre is heavy. Very dangerous to have something like that sat free in the boot. That could cause serious injury in an accident or a considerably bruised back in a emergency stop.

Dunno how this could be considered a good idea!!!

£50 for a wheel and tyre or "£50 for the AA full 3 years and covers no fuel, locked keys punctures etc" i know which i choose.

Spare rolling free in the boot is really silly!! *shudders*

point is.. if you take your spare wheel out of your 172 does it affect handling balance or increase acceleration ??? if so is the 172 then as fast as a 182 ? becuase a 182 weighs more.

Yeah well thats what I said, I dont reckon renault did anything to the engine, they just took the spare wheel out, lol.

but a 182 does weigh less than a 172, even with the spare wheel out? So what is your point? I dont understand?

No both an emergency stop from high speed and a front ender would both send a unsecured spare wheel flying into the passenger compartment.

The rear seats are designed and tested to take a certain amount of weight in that type of collision. Not sure how much though.

Apparently it helps if you keep the seat belts on the back seats fastened when no one is sat there. If someone is sat in the back at the time then bad luck!!!

Id still go for the footpump when you have a slow puncture or are near a garage and the foam as a reserve for when you are miles away from home or a garage.

I thought the 182 was the heaviest

According to the specs on the main site it is
no mate, the 172 is the heaviest, then the 182 is inbetween it and the cup

172 Mark 2 weighs 1120 kgs (full tank)

172 Mark 1 weighs 1100 kgs (full tank)

Those are from a weight bridge that some ppl from the forum did ages ago.

The 182 according to Renault weighs 1090 kg (not sure if this is with a full tank)

so whats the difference between a spare wheel in your boot and a some luggage?

And how are you going to lock your keys in a car that doesnt have any buttons to press down on the door?

There was a program on T.V about it, they showed you what happened to tool box when you brake from 50/60 it can also rip through the back seats and come into the passenger compartment. Have a look in the back of your Cup and look at the flimsy bit of plastic than moves up and down with the boot hatch (wots it called again? hehe) you think that’s going to stop a unsecured spare wheel when you brake from 70-0?

Morale of the story if you have a 182 doesn’t risk carrying a spare wheel just get the AA out.

Quite easy if you accidentally press the button then shut the door, using the 30 auto arming function of the alarm I guess ;)
