IK help/dilema

  850 T5. mmmm Turbo!
So i heard an Ik on a 1.4 and i now want one. companies dont seem to do them for my model, the ones that say they do are lying, think my aircon means C/F pipes cant be used.

So i need to design a new system. i cant find any holes in my grill so im using the 6 squares in the bottom splitter. i measured it and thats a bigger area than using a fog light.

problem is, im not sure what to keep and what to get rid of

my engine.

1. shows where the air filter is now. i guess id take the filter out and leave that part empty. 2. shows somthing else, i have no idea what it is or does but is sealed and id have to break it to open it. 3. shows where the Current standard C/F is, kinda behind the headlight (lots of air there then.) i guess it relies on the gaps between panels to get a good air flow.

A guy at work has told me i can get a fibre glass kit which u just shape and add resin and its easy to make hard shapes. so im gonna make 2 flat box shapes to get the air from the splitter under the car then when in the space id make a connector from 2 regtangular pipes to 1 round one.

Easy eh.

ideas and thoughts please.

holes. i know the splitter is damaged, good excuse for a new one

cold feed pipe, not sure what to call it, but where the air goes in.

so if i buy an air filter id just get box 2?
can i take the pollen filter out as well then?

I wouldn't take your pollen filter out , thats filters all the crap , dust etc out of the air for inside your car . If its noise your after you could always go down the universal induction kit route ,something like the green dynatwist or you could go for a replacement after market panel filter .

think your wrong there. number 1 goes into the back of the throttle body only. no other pipes come of it.
i agree a polen filter is good, just dont think that is it.

My personal thoughts would be that your current splitter is already damaged. Imagine what it would be like if there were two brittle fibreglass scoops stook to the back of it as well. Shards everywhere at the sight of the first high kerb.
I personally would try and route the pipe down towards the nearside arch liner. On the phase 2 172's there is a vent which angles the airflow upwards slightly. I have run a length of 70mm ducting up to my standard airbox which more than does the trick. This vent may not be there on the 1.4 but the area would be less vulnerable than the back of the splitter.
Check here for pants pics' but you get the idea:

No 1. looks like the entrance to the Plenum chamber, much like the Renault Sport section of a 172/182 engine albeit a plastic version. I would say that No 2 is the airbox containing the air filter. Is there not a hinge on the right hand side of the box in the image allowing the top to be flipped? Try rip it out and have a look.
I reckon you could fit another, freer flowing airbox in there. Something like a phase 1 172's which Fred reckons is the more effective of the 2 172 designs. Run a feed to the wheel arch and a reducing silicone elbow to the throttle body, job done.

no im kinda confused. the wheel arch is tottally in accessable from the engine bay. i dont see how u can get a pipe in there without cutting.
this is where the ait is caught on my car although i have no idea where it is supposed to be coming from.

at the top is the back of the headlight
the fibre glass is quite flexible.

agree with one although if u take those screws off theres a filter with an orange band round it going to the right. number 2 is sealed mate, i tried before to get it open.

never though of a 172 air box, good idea. although the fitting from part 1 to 2 isnt circular its a eliptical(sp) shape dunno if hoses will fit it.

ooo I wonder whos 1.4 that was

lol

harry just done a quick search on www.knfilters.co.uk to see what the filter kit looks like for your car mate..... the pic...

So it looks like the kit you will get will come with some sort of relocation tube, If I was you I'd just buy the kit you want and follow the intructions, the intstruction I got with mine was very good and had detailed pictures of my actual engine too. happy gooooorrrming! :D

to be honest, i dont like it.

well you dont have to look at it do you, your engine does. all you do is smile when its rawwws!! hehe :)

what you wanna do is bodge together a method of attaching a universal filter to the air filter, similarly to the method you would use with a proper induction kit, ie take off the square filter box and maybe uise a mixture of plastic tubing and lots oof glue and tape and stuff, i dunno , never tried that before then clamp on the cone filter and get a cold air feed from halfords or something. chepaer than a real induction kit and will work just aswell.
