IK/Panel Filter, the choice is... mine?

Car  Megane 225 Turbo
I've just been reading and there seems to be an argument for Induction Kits and Panel Filters. I have a mk3 TCE Clio 1.2 Turbo and am (or was) considering an Induction Kit, thinking it gave slight increases in performance. It seems all they are good for is noise now after reading some posts, unless coupled with remaps.

What does a panel filter do then as I am now a bit confused. Will these increase noise or just performance or neither. I understand the performance increase is likely to be minimal even not noticable but I don't wish to go backwards and start sapping power just for the sake of a bit of noise.

Many thanks.

hi... i too had this debate aswell.. i have the itg panel filter and ive found that it does improves the power a small bit but it does improve the engine response but thas about it. it does increases the noise a small amount too. the best bet is to go for a induction kit as this does look nicer than the black plastic airbox in standard form. this does increase noise and u will also get a a honking noise from the recirculating dump valve on the tce engine. the only way to get around this is to remove the pipe that connects it to the air box. the other-thing that ull gain is that fact that if u do any engine mods in the future u will get a slightly higher increase in performance.
