So topped my oil up earlier and only went and forgot to put the oil filler cap back on :banghead:.

Went out for a short drive and smelt a funny smell so checked under the bonnet to find no oil cap and a nice little mess. I checked the level and thankfully only lost a tiny amount was only at half on dipstick. Cleaned all the mess topped it up and managed to find the cap still sat in the engine bay.

Now i'm just wondering if theres anything I should worry about? Everything seems fine but just worried that the oil may have gone somewhere. I have looked at the belts and they don't appear to have oil on. Is it a good idea to get it checked properly?

Once picked my car up from a garage after a service, driving home I could smell oil. When I got home I realised straight away that they hadnt put the oil cap back on. I phoned them and they had a look around and couldnt find it so told me to drive back to the garage, they gave me some cash and told me to drive the renault and buy a new cap.... Fair to say I have never been back to that garage again!

But you should be fine :)

Mine came off not so long ago, did probably about 100-300 miles I'm guessing with no cap on. Was a nice big mess haha. Just cleaned it the best I could not had any problems since then.

Well played young Sir!

I cross threaded a nut into the hub of my C2 GT back in the day and blamed the last 'comedian' at Citroen with the buzz gun nipping it up too tight.

That cost them £300 to put right for my mistake! Blaming someone else FTW
