In my opinion if you want something with more umph but don't want to be crippled on insurance, get a 1.6 16v Clio. They are only a group 8 insurance and are as nippy as f**k for a 1.6 and handle really well. I have no complaints about power , she certainly seems to have plenty of it. I couldn't really ask anymore from a 1.6 to be honest. I have had mine for 3 years and so far ~touches wood~ she hasn't given me any trouble at all.

I couldnt afford to buy anything as new as that, unless I can find one for about 2k and thats pushing what I can afford.
