Immobiliser Issue

A friend of mine has just bought a 172 cup, it appears to have had a new key at some point and wont let the car start.

It fits the barrell properly and turns all the way round as it should, however when you do this, the immobiliser light flashes very quickly and doesnt let the car crank over. Also when you click the button on the key to lock the doors nothing happens, is it a case that this new key hasnt been coded to the car and will it be a trip to the dealers?

Cheers

Sounds like either a new key hasn't been coded or it needs a new key.

At £200 its not a bad buy but it needs a set of keys really, maybe a UCH (unlikely) and if you don't already have it the security access code to allow you to program the new key(s).

If Renault do it or someone with access to Truecode you wont need the access code.

Nope, its normally around 12 characters long and a mixture of letters and numbers.

It depends on the car. The older ones like the original Megane was four digits but in the Clio II CLIP requires a slightly longer code to allow/enter programming.
