Immobiliser issue

  Honda & VW
A work colleague has a Y reg 1.6 Clio and today said he's got a problem with the key. The immobiliser won't disengage so needs a new key or have the current one reprogrammed.

Anyone know of anywhere local to Gloucester that can sort this out?

Also if the immobiliser isn't disengaging are there any solutions to this?

If the light is flashing rapidly, it usually Needs a new key programmed. this sadly needs to be done with dealer level equipment. He will be looking circa £160 from Renault to have this done including the key.

if the light stays solid, this can be anything to the uch, decoder ring etc.

got the same problem with my w-reg 1.6 clio. started off with the remote central locking giving up and having to hold the button on the remote in whilst starting the car. now it has died completely as Dan said £102 for a key and £54 to program it from renault and will take approx 10 days to order and get a key.

found 2 company's that claim to be able to repair the BMT to cure the problem at around £70 (still finding more info on this).

also been searching ebay and breakers to get a 2nd hand ecu, bmt, remote and ring looking at £120.

Key for your age of clio will come pre programmed to start the car. The only thing that will need programming is the central locking.

found an ecu bmt from a car same year and engine the ecu number matches mine but the bmt number is different both bmt are n3 would it work?

reading on the forum if the ecu light is solid its a fault with the ecu or bmt and if the immobiliser flashes its a fault with the key sending the code? would that be correct?

If you have a ph1 key already coded allowing you to start it.
Only thing that needs programming is the central locking.

Don't change the ecu/mtu etc as if the key goes again, you can't order another key as the ecu immobiliser code won't match.

its already been changed once

is the decoder ring part of the matched set?
