Immobiliser plug/socket thingy

  Clio 172
Hi

Still waiting to pick up my 172

So, just asking what is that little odd socket by the gear stick? When I took mine for a test drive I was told it was an something to do with the Immobiliser? But I never had to insert the plug part to run the car. So what exactly is it?!

Cheers

Tom

Its the OBB or onboard diagnostic system. Its used to check fault codes etc when warning lights come on and test the cars syetsm its not much use for analysing faults unless you've got a Renault computer (£5k) otherwsie outputs from it are useless.

So there isn't a J1962 socket on the Clio?

What an odd place to put it! Looks ugly and extremely odd!

Just thinking the OBD it under the ash tray how would you have seen this?

LRTom - they do have it thats what its official desination is its under the ashtray you'll see it.

Sounds more like the Dallas key emergency by-pass for a Toad alarm....What a stupid place to put it.

O right, hence why I was able to drive it fine. So If the alarm goes off I could insert this plug and it would turn it off?

I'll try get some pics up if I go via the garage tomorrow. Strange how they never told me it had an aftermarket alarm fitted! Supose it's a good thing! Though there was no extra things on the key ring, just the standard fob, could the aftermarket alarm be hooked up to the standard alarm in some way so it's controlled through the standard fob?

If it's an aftermarket alarm / immobiliser, is it an import ? Or could be in addition to the standard one ?

It might not have the aftermarket alarm anymore. Its often left in because otherwise there is going to be a hole in the dash!

Its not a good picture, but to me, that looks just like the standard LED that they fit to the car when the upgrade Cat2 to Cat1 alarm is fitted at Southampton.

If there is no obvious LED in the black holder, it might have been pushed through by some "inquisitive little fingers" perhaps.
