Immobiliser problems

  black 182 both cup packs
As title says im having some issues with the immobiliser on my 182.

Its happened before when the battery went flat, and the guy from the AA sorted it saying that basically the immobiliser or the ECU really had 'forgotton' the code and it needed re-setting.
After that it was fine up until a few days ago, when it happened again and i managed to sort it by trying a few things that came up when i googled it. But it keeps happening, not every time i go to start the engine just now and then its really unpredictable and the same 'tricks' dont work every time.

So the car is now sat on my works car park as it just wouldnt have it earlier. When you turn on the ignition the red light flashes which i am told is an indication of an immobiliser problem, and it wont turn over at all.

So if anybody knows anything of this problem or can point me in the right direction id be extremely grateful.

Ant,

Possibly a few things occurring here but there's only one you will be able to check yourself I'm afraid which is the fuse for the UCH in the passenger side of the dash. It's a 5A that powers the decoder ring and is pretty common for causing imob issues. Anything else you're going to need the services of a decent garage I'm afraid.

Personally, I think it's going to need a new key so if you have a spare, try using it first as it may get you going. If it does you deffo need a new key. If not, then it's most likely either a wiring issue or the UCH itself has packed in (another common, age related failure on these cars).

Cheers for the reply Mick.

I suspected the key and took the cover off to take the battery out to go get a new one and the button inside is loose. I dont know if or how that could be related to the immobiliser issues but im thinking first thing to do would be to get the key fixed with a new battery. I might as well replace the fuse aswell. See where that leaves me and go from there I think.

Thanks again mate.
