Impreza fans...what's this?

Classics are appreciating for sure, but are still relatively cheap for what they are. Evos are far more pricey these days than Imprezas, for example. If you’re used to paying £3-4k for cars then of course £15k seems like a lot, but £15k doesn’t buy that much these days when comes to ‘90s performance heroes.

You can still pick up a good bug, blob or hawk STi for £10k which is such a bargain - expect to see prices for newage cars rising before long as they get thinner on the ground.

Honestly the bug sti is a good sweet spot. They are marmite looks but I actually love the looks. People prefer the blobeye but I think they look a bit goofy with the bulbous headlights.

I wouldn’t say the evos are more pricey percentage wise compared to years past. Maybe you’re thinking of UK imprezas as the JDM sti models are way more expensive than they ever were.

I used to pay circa £8k for Evo 5 or £10k for Evo 6 years ago (over 10 years) and you can still get them for that. Nicer ones and RS’s are more but I used to buy the cheaper end.

At the same time a classic sti would have been £3k for an early saloon to £8k for a type R. Now I’d say they’ve at least doubled in value. I bought a really nice 1995 STI RA for £3k and now it’d prob be £10k+

I’ve been offered £10k for my V6 sti but there’s naff all out there I could get for that money that’d come close.
 
I too remember when Imprezas were properly cheap! I bought a v1 RA in 2012 for £2,100 and a v5 RA in 2014 for £2,500.

IMO the best of the newages are DCCD-equipped blobs. DCCD blobs along with classics came with a 33F/66R torque bias compared with 45F/55R on the (very rare) DCCD bugs, 41F/59R DCCD hawks and 50/50 on non-DCCD cars. The extra rear bias on the blobs makes them extra fun to drive.

Shortly after I sold my v1 RA the next owner had it featured by Henry Catchpole in evo magazine.

My wife has had a widetrack blob sti for 6 years. Got it with 25k now on 55k. Still take to subaru main dealer once a year for service and mot.

Great car, the noise and the on off nature of the boost makes it so fun to drive. Steering very light which is only downside.

Had a p1 back when it was 2 tears old had full WR options with exhaust and Alcons and strangely leather seats and a giant compass/altimeter (where people have boost guages)

The p1 looked amazing. And was ballistic in 2002. When you accelerated you would just catch up with cars at such a pace. To fast for road.

I still see a few impreza about definately more than renaultsport, I think it maybe the are always loud and the distinctive noise makes you turn your head.

They are still rapid. Sub 5 to 60 and 12.5 to 100. Still quick.

So golf r quick rather than m140i quick.

Golf r and subaru in std form are quick in quoted numbers due to traction of the line.

M140i has much more power (actual std dyno) and torque. And is indecently rapid once moving and traction permits.

I had a passenger ride in this thing today.

Initial thoughts as he got going was that it seemed quite softly sprung, then we got going and the firmness was there.

Suspension and body control seems really good, damping was superb.

Did it feel old? Nope. Not at all, the interior clearly has the 90s written all over it, but from where I was sat it felt as taught and rapid as anything I've ever been in.

The gearing is incredibly short, it was doing over 3k rpm at 60mph in top gear! The way it got going in 4th and 5th was eye opening.

It'll be a few weeks until I get to drive it and from what I felt today I don't think I'll be even slightly disappointed.

I can only imagine what it would have felt like having one of these in 1997 😎😁

Forgot to say, when I drive it, he's going to be behind or in front of me driving my 140 with a camera in the front/rear tow eye mount. So we'll get to see just how they compare.

Also, he's just had it MOTd, and it's done only 95 miles since the test last year. I'll be doing at least half his annual mileage when I film it 🤣

My excitement level is up to 11.

Enjoyed the video. Amazed at its mileage. I was genuinely expecting it to have done 10,000 miles or something. That engine bay is ridiculously clean

Class cars though.

I think some Americans pronounce it "Imprezza", but the British way is "Impre-za". Who knows if there is a right and wrong. Have to ask a Japanese person.

Good video though, of a lovely car. I always preferred the 4-door RA to the Type-R, but still a lovely thing and must be super rare in that condition and standard spec.

After a quick Googs it seems that the Japanese pronounce the z more like an s, so it would be Impressa or given how they pronounce gaijin letters it's Inpuressa.

How do you say Renault? Rennow or Rennolt? I'm not having a go, I just think it's funny how certain things we say as they would in the native language and others we don't.
