impreza turbo-celica gt4-corrado vr6

had the valver for almost a year now, insurance has gone down, got a new job, year older, think its time to leave the clio and get a new motor! as in the tittle i have narrowed it down to 3 choices. Looking to spend between 5 and 8 grand! can anyone give me some advice into which direction to go? has anyone owned, driven or been in any of these before? looking at things such as looks, mod cons, performance but also reliability and value holidng dont want to buy it and lose half value instantly! advice would be most helpful-thankyou!!!

anything uses a lot of petrol if you thrash it, i know my clio does!! not too bothered about that i know theyre all gas guzzlers!

wouldnt touch any type of import with a barge pole! scoobys are the quickest if im right then the celica then the corrado, none of which are slow!

  Nippy white cup

Would probably go for the VR6. No slouch itself, plus no turbo to worry about and they sound very nice.

if i get a scooby it will be about 98 r or s reg as i think there was a slight facelift in this year-different vents or something! a gt four will be the m,n,p reg and a corrado would also be an n reg!

I bet your clio doesnt do 17mpg as the impreza does if your NOT thrashing it! God even knows what the mpg is if youre thrashing it.

my brother has got the carrodo 1.8 G60 and is a very nice car to drive, very fast as well, pulls all the way round the clock, i aint driven a VR6 yet, but i think my brother is hoping to get one in a few months

Stupac, I have owned the GT4 about 11 years ago when they first came out, very sexy car and lots of mods available, if you can get the Group A Rally (Carlos Sainz Version) even better as it has a water to air intercooler instead of the air to air, as for the VR6, my girlfriend is driving me old one now since I got the Clio and I think you will be disapointed as its way too heavy and not as responsive (compared to the Clio), Scoobys are fun but the eariler models dont have the looks of the GT4 and the interior is not as slick.

GO FOR THE GT4

Id go for the GT4 new shape (gt205) i think with the high hoop boot spoiler. Scoobys are nice but there is just 2 many now days.

SEEN A NICE GT4 WRC VERSION, APPARENTLY 245BHP! ON AN N REG FOR ABOUT 7 GRAND! DONT LIKE THE 3 SPOKES ON IT THOUGH

WRC versions of the ST205 GT4 are pretty rare and really not more desirable than the regular. They have an intercooler spray bar (which is not active) and an anti lag device which again is not active, and the raising blocks on the rear spolier (which lots of non WRC have anyway) apart from that they are same as standard and are also the earliest 94 cars. I bought an imported GT-4 a couple of months ago which ended up back with the dealer after we had a fall out. GT-4 is a fab motor, imports are SAME insurance as the UK if you go through the club insurer (£577 for me) and you will be able to get a mint fresh 94 - 95 import with say 30 - 40 on the clock for £7 - £7,500. There is practically no difference between the UK spec and JDM spec There are a few expensive problems to look out for, check the GT4OC web site. Oh yeah, and be aware that none of the pre 98 ones have air bags and many do not have ABS, worth knowing! Oh and those nasty 3 spokes can be replaced with a tasty 5 spokes for about £700. GO FOR IT!

cheers for all the advice, not much difference in performance between gt4 and scooby is there? would love a scooby but im thinking that maybe they are too common and only affordable ones are 5 doors!

Similar performance and both very tunalble, but very different cars so hard to choose on performance alone. J-spec Scooby specs vary quiet a lot dependent on version which can be WRX, WRX STi and a number of different model year versions, genrally fom what I know, J-Spec are more powerful than the UK versions but I believe some of that is down to ECU mapping for running on higher octane Jap fuel, you may lose some of this advantage if you get it remapped for lower octane fuel. My choice was based on buying for my wife, she drove the classic (pre 2000) Scooby which she did not get on with, then the GT-4 which she loved, so the GT-4 was the one (I am getting a new Impreza WRX soon though!). You will find the Scooby is more to insure if that is a consideration, but really you should try them both and see what suits you, both FAB motors! One other thing, you will find that Toyota support grey imports in the UK and will service and supply parts (at fair prices), I belive Subaru do not support imports, so you will using specialists (lots of them about) rather than the main dealers.

Oh yes, I also meant to say on my earlier post that many GT-4s have the GT Four raising blocks added to the spoliers by their owners so it is not a reliable way to see if its a real WRC version, there are some ways of being sure, detailed via a link on the GT4OC web site.

the scoobys stupid money to run! TWO services a year and theyre not cheap. One minor then one intermediate. If you were to go for one go 99+ newer interior and less probs, i know there were lag probs and ecu probs as well as other things b4 this!

DannyBoy is right.I wanted an impreza but the running costs are mental.

The Corrado is dull and to heavy.

The Gt4 is best bet but youll be paying through the nose if it goes wrong.

If you your not intrested in goining out/drinking/eating/etc go for the gt 4 if you wanna a life stick with the clio!

the gt4 or the new car will be my new life!!! the 16v aint the cheapest car to run particularly with all the things that have gone or going wrong with mine!!! look forward to a new challenge! i think now weve established the corrado is too heavy and crap handling but i think it has a lot of character and looks the dogs b****cks!!!

I would go for the GT4

Scoobys do cost a lot to run! My old man recently sold his Sti. And that cost a lot in servicing and fuel. Althought wasnt an issue as much to him! It did cost a lot to run! I would go for the GT4

But if you have heard a VR6 with a filter on full chat they sound awesome!
