in car heater

can any1 tell me whats goin on and/or how to fix it,my valvers in car heaters/fans will only work on 1 and 2 (not 3) so takes 4 eva 2 demist my windows.my m8 said somethin bout somethin under the bonnet but i didnt really catch what he was talkin bout.

2 possibilities-1,fan control switch is faulty or 2,fan rheostat or its connector faulty.remove scuttle panel trims and wiper moter assembly.on the side of the heater fan box there is a small rheostat unit.unplug the connector and check its condition(a commen problem was the connector melting,connector kits avaliable from renault).if thats ok then check there is an earth to the connector(probably a black wire but i cant remember the pin number),check that there is a feed present when you select the different speeds(there is 3 other wires one for each speed,check that one of the wires has a feed down it when you select your different speeds.if all ok then the rheostat is faulty.if you dont get all the feeds then its poss the fan control switch on the heater panel or a broken wire between the switch and the rheostat.If you get stuck ill find the pin locations(rheostat connector)for the different speeds and the earth so that you can check it properley.jay

i got into themultiplug at the rheostat (without having 2 remove all the wiper assembly luckily),cheaked all the pins 4 an output with an voltmeter and they were all ok,so i just reconnected it thinkin i needed a new rheostat but when i got in the car and tried the no. 3 settin it worked!musta just been a dirty connection or somethin.

how did u know what it was,u a mechanic,past experience or somethin?

Its a VERY common problem on mk1 clios. Your lucky it was only a dirty connection. On mine it had shorted out and melted a load of the plastic around the connector!

Mine dont work at all guys. Book say poss multiplug faulty or fan motor. Hope i can sort mine as easy as that

a bit of both-renault rte mechanic,commen fault on old clios and i have come across the fault before.least you can demist your windows now
