In Car Monitor / Ps2 help

Hi,

New to Cliosport.net so see how this all goes.

Got a New clio 1.2 16v sport and am planning to put a 5.6" TFT in the gap where the can holders are in the dash or is there an fitting kit u can get to have it mounted near the upper dash? has anybody got any tips, eg where to get a decent screen from and a good price. Ive looked on Ebay but it all looks dodgy if something goes pete tong coz u have to send it back to Hong Kong (££££)I already have a PS2 which am quite prepared to put in my car, probably under passenger seat. I have a clued up mate for the actual install but just need to know where to get a decent priced and good quality screen, please help peeps.

Is there a meeting near york next month? i think im going if there is !!

YNOS screens are quite good quality, a company in Bolton can source them (sorry cant remember the name)

yeah i got it all today, with my shiny new card!! im after doing a few bits to my car and thought this would be the best way to get sum tips. Im after a company that just sells clio sideskirts, not the full kit, maybe getting it lowered and colourcoded, thats bout it coz ive done a fair bit to it and the ice is huge.

Im goin to mount it behind the air vents in the middle of the dash. Those air vents dont do much on my car so, ill block it up, cut loads out inside the dash so it will fit in, then use the air vents to clip in place when im away from the car. Its a stealth idea

If so, can this be connected to a Head unit ? or is just for use with a console or dvd player? Coz I want my screen/console to be connected to my stereo so all music & sound effects from the game comes out of the speakers!

Im having problems about what route to go down for multimedia! Coz I want a console & a HU, but I want to be able to play mp3 CDs & copied dvds such as VCDs! & well the xbox (which I will be putting in) doesnt allow copied cds to be played!! what do i do?! anyone got any ideas? (dont mean to nick ur thread Rich! sorry mate!)

it does mps, dvd, vcd, etc. but merconnet do one too and i cant decide what one i want !

basically they are quite simple head units really, so if you have an alpine then you are probably wanting to keep it!

The screen will work with anything i think.

If you have sound inputs on your head unit, then use them. If not then use an fm modulator or a lead which goes in the disk changer socket. If your puuting loads of consoles etc, then you could just make a switch to select what audio will be going in to the head unit.

Also my x box runs mp3s, if you get it chipped then you can use it to play dvds and vcds too, and games that you can copy to your hard drive.

yeah Ive been tempted by making an in car pc mate! still tempted tho... a future project maybe after the console is in.

Have you got that XBIT chip then? was it easy to fit on your xbox? Did you have any problems with it? & does it play everything? Like copied games, vcds (like divX) dvd-rs, mp3 cds, wma files etc etc.

is that screen a touch screen? I like it alot as it angles left & right to!!! they are very rare from motrised head units so I could get this & hide it somewhere & keep my original head unit & get a console to & hopefully be able to connect all 3 together.

no i havent got the chip. I know a few people on here who have tho and they say it is good, pretty easy to install i think. You can buy the remote for the x box to play dvds, but as soon as you play a dvd it locks itself to that dvd area code, which can be a pain! my x box is ok with copied music cds. The x boxs came with diferent cd drives in some (thats why some dont play copies), its microsofts way of fighting piracy! to over come it try turning the gain up on the cd drive, need to take it apart a bit to do that though.

The chip will play everything, not sure bout wma files though. the chip can also let you install linux, which is pretty cool, make your own menu screens etc. I think a chap called KDF has some posts here somewhere as he has done all this.

The screen isnt touch screen, but you can make it into one by gettin this:

hmmm, $100.... How much more would it be just to get a touch screen monitor in the first place??

Is that what your planning or not bother with the whole touch screen thing?

in reply to the original post if you put it by the cup holders wont the gear stick get in the way of seeing the screen properly, I remember some months ago someone was thinking the same idea and was put off cos of the gear stick, just a thought

could get a touch screen version in the first place, but i would only use it if i installed the pc idea, or on the x box. seeing as i havent got any plans of putting them in for quite a while i thought id live without the touchscreen.

You can get the touchscreen version of the screen im getting but it still costs around $100 more anyway.

For a the pc idea it would probably be better to spend more money, i.e. a vga compatable screen with touch, it has better resolution and refresh rate.

yeah, I was about to say, tft screens arnt very good compared to the original CRT monitors for playing games due to their refresh rate, they tend to blur when playing fast paced games.

Could you suggest any good 7" ones that are a vga compatible screen with touch that would be good for use with the xbox as well as the usual use with the head unit etc etc please? I wish I knew more about multimedia within a car!

Iv read a lot of forums, just a normal tft is fine, lots of people are happy with that, the vga screen isnt a great deal better, still not like the crt ones.

Im just trying to do multimedia at a budget

To use the touchscreen on an x box you will need to chip the x box, install linux, install software for screen to run and also get a convertor to make usb into xbox controller socket. Thing is you can only use it within linux on pc games/ utilities, not for use on actual x box games etc. might as well just use a controller instead.

ah thats fine! I wasnt planning on using the touchscreen for the xbox anyways!!!! It was just for music & the equaliser! I would prefer using the controller! but if a touchscreen aint much more then i would just probably get that due to me being quite lazy! hehe, but multimedia is the only thing im missing in my ice install! Ive finished the rest of it!!!!

Although its all sitting in my room atm as im in the middle of buying a new car so im surrounded by amps subs n speakers hehe.

But i tell u what is confusing me.... if you were to get more than one screen... there is no way you can play a multiplayer game on the xbox & have each player on each screen with only one xbox is there?

normally, say a four player game would split the game to the four corners of the screen, so that is what you would get on the car screens. some screens have a zoom i think that you could use to zoom the screens in to the appropriate corner.

really?! never knew that, but im assuming those screens would be expensive!! oh well no bother, wont be playing 4 player very much anyways! just two player most probably, or passengers playing each other, & wont have the rear seats in anyways so thats 3 pplz out already hehe, although if the screens do offer that for not much more then it might be worth a look see into.
