Incorrect VIN via OBD2

  Scooby RB5
The OBD2 port on my 182 is giving me the wrong VIN - rather than a 2004 182 it's a 2002 1.5 diesel. As the car runs correctly I'm going to take a guess that the VIN is linked to the OBD2 module rather than the ECU and I don't need to worry about this too much... Or do I?

cheers

Send me the Reg (If not private) and I will have a look on the renault system what the car is

Thanks Marc; sadly it is on a private plate. I know the previous owner who converted it into a hillclimb car and put the private plate on it so I'll see if he has the original plate. The VIN on the V5 and the drivers door pillar match and it's got the flat boot floor of a 182 so I think it's all matching; it's just the VIN read automaticlaly by the fault code reader - did I read somewhere that this comes from the airbag computer? Judging by the amount of sticky residue around the OBD2 socket it's possible that it's had a replacement airbag computer after a cola incident...

My old Kangoo used to have something totally different for the vin 1.2 clio or whatever. It appears to be stored in the airbag ecu as thats the only module i did not change.

Makes no difference to running whatsoever or any functions. Just looks a bit strange when scanned with clip.

At a guess the previous owner has had an airbag go off and replaced it due to locked, or damaged it somehow.

There's pretty strong evidence that it has had a front end knock at some stage so that's probably what has happened. I wasn't too worried about it when using the fault code reader as I could manually set the car to CB22 but I've just got an RS Tuner and as it will be VIN locked I think it might be time to get the VIN corrected

Having had a search through here I think I need CLIP to change the VIN on the airbag ECU? In which case is there anyone in the north Gloucestershire area with CLIP who could do this when we're allowed out?
