Induction Kit Advice

  RenaultSport Clio Cup 182
Hi all

New to the forum! I bought a Clio 182 Cup a couple of weeks ago and I am getting the tuning bug!

I am looking into buying an induction kit, can any of you advise me on which is a good one based on personal experience?

I am looking for something that bolts directly in to the existing space of the air filter and don't want to be hassled with feeding air intake tubes around the engine and so forth.

I have looked at the K&N 57i and it seems to be a good one but are there any others out there?

Thanks in advance

P.S: Good forum with lots of useful information :)

Do a search mate. This topic frequently comes up.

AVOID any open filter.

I would only recomment a ITG maxogen, Failing that a Panel filter.

The Piperx viper is favoured on here!

Just had a look on the demontweaks site and there is nothing listed for the 182 version of the Clio. Do I have to get the 172 version for my car?

By open filter I assume you mean cone filters, correct?

Yes mate. I don't rate the viper either. Due to the position of it and the lack of cold air getting to it. Most IK reep full benefits complemented with other breathin mods such as: decat, zorst, stage one inlets and IK to finish off this level of tuning a remap is necessary. These mods are good for 10-15bhp. :)

Interesting points Ali, Are you saying that an Open filter with some of these mods would increase power more than having an ITG panel filter that also includes these mods? i.e it isn't so bad having an open filter after all?? :star:

Open filters are a no-no...period.

Lots of nice noises under the bonnet but also lots of heatsoak.

As neil says, open filters are a defo no no!!! Maxogen!

so guys what you are saying is get an induction kit only if you are going the full zorst system and chip is that right if not doing this then avoid?? cheers i want a bmc are these any good they are rated as one of the best when i had my vts cheers

I don't think you have to have a full exhaust system to run an IK but it will help the cars breathing if both are done.

Maxogen is the daddy of filter systems but silly expensive...BMC is cheaper and closed but I don't know what they are like/how many people run them.

I just opted for the panel as the OE box looks pretty good and takes it's air from cool areas (airflow between light on top intake and right down below headlamp on the bottom one). Also wanted my car to look OE too so panel fitted the bill:D

ive just fitted a closed ik that i got off ebay. 60 quid delivered. you will need a silicone elbow to fit it but i think its worth it. same benifits as a BMC but less that half the price.

What closed kit was it mate? ;)

its called an 'evo sport' carbon fibre induction kit. comes with a 1m of ally cold air feed. look it up on ebay. got mine for 60 big ones. you'll need a silicone elbow as it wont fit the origional bend. you'll also have to attach the IK to the elbow befor the install. I used four very small self tapping screws. works well and sounds awesome. :approve:

  yep.
no, just wondering why you would use self-tappers to connect a silicon elbow to your IK?

its normally a jubilee clip

would have thought it needed to be air tight - not sure about using screws for that?

will post a pic tomorrow. yours looks great but i didn't want to spend too much. the evo sport IK comes with an 80mm opening that attaches to the elbow. The trouble is that its a soft fixing. The silicone elbow fits in nice and snug but a jubilie clip just squeezes them together. i pushed them together so they were air tight and added 4 small screws for safety. then added the jubilie clip and bobs your uncle - an enclosed cold air IK with silicone elbow for less than 80 quid!!!

have read your guild on fitting the cold air feed - will do mine next week.:approve:

not 2 take over , but daze im going for exactly the same set up , have u got a support for the viper or elbow underneath ?????????? or just held toghether as shown:boring:

This sounds like an interesting alternative to the viper.

That ramair kit i bought had a rubber to rubber fit, Shite design hence the £60 price, i will 99% guarentee you will have lost power! I did.

the viper comes with a bracket which fixes to a hole left by the oe airbox! the jubilee clip which attaches the silicone elbow to the viper slides through the bracket and gives it all support! :D

out of interest what are peoples views on connecting the caf directly to the viper?
i have the same set up as daze but instead of connecting it to the viper mine is about 3inches short and just pointing at the viper to try and allow a cold air flow to the system!
im sure i read some threads written by the techies saying that increasing the distance that the viper draws air through leads to a greater loss of power or something like that?

any1?

edit: just found your other thread daze and had a read of it

I think MarkM and Ben proved that having it disconnected but aiming at the IK was the most productive solution.

hopefully :D

i know it aint the perfect scenario but i rekon thats the best way to get the benefits if using a viper

in an ideal world i think we would all go for the cup racer relocated battery with the filter tucked in behind the headlight :D

Pics of my IK set up - no cold air feed yet, will fix it next week...

  yep.
yeah the viper has a "bracket" but with the hill power elbow you dont really need it.

i also read about not connecting the caf directly, after trying it both ways i couldnt tell any difference!! at least connected its not getting any "underbonnet" air :)
