Induction kits, replacement filters?

I have a MK1 clio 1.2 Energy (carb), i was told that an induction kit wil lreduce bhp and a replacement filter will increase it. Is this true, is it worth spending £50 on a replacement K&N air box filter? Will i actually notice the difference?

You'll hear the difference and if your old filters realy dirty you'll get a tiny HP change but compaired to new filter you won't see any difference realy.
