Induction Kits, whats best?

  S4, Tamora, Conti GT
After hearing a mates 172 with an open cone induction kit, I want the noise, I'm not expecting a power gain, and have read a lot of the other threads on this.

1. Would a panel filter give a better noise?
2. Will an induction kit need a remap to work properly (as i read that it changes the power curve of the engine)

I have a 182 with a cat back yozza exhaust, what would give the best noise?

I used to run a Simota Aeroform, sounded amazing!

However, the best setup is probably an uprated panel filter. This won't make any difference to the sound it makes, unless you either remove the bottom air feed or drill some holes into the existing airbox.

For light mods, you could always get an RS Tuner. I wouldn't bother getting a live map on the mods you have got so far.

Just get a decat on that Yozza, you won't hear the induction sound then!!!

As above, airbox, uprated panel filter and disconnect one of the cold air feeds (mine had two). Alternatively drill holes on the cold side of the bottom part of the air box. There was a thread on here where different setups were dyno tested and there was no difference in power between the panels and open cones however it demonstrated that the OE airbox is well designed and without it your drivability will be impared. They showed that with an open cone, the performance graphs displayed very uneven performance. Personal experience backed this up as I had an induction kit on my car when I bought it. It sounded absolutely EPIC! however since I put the standard airbox back on with a K&N panel it feels a bit smoother. Much quieter however and that is with the cold air intake disconnected. As per your post if what your looking for is an induction noise, there will be nothing tragic about using a cone filter. I'm not far from you (southampton) and if you REALLY want an induction kit, I have a k&N (£55) and a RPower (£40). Both used but just been cleaned ready for selling. If you let me have one of your cold air hoses off your air box (the one that connects to the back of the box), I'll knock £20 of either.
