Right well its coming upto the time when im gonna need to take my test which means paying insurance etc
how much do you think i should be expecting to pay 17 year old clio 1.2 2005 dynamique
with wheels, lowered, maybe skirts, ik and exhaust?
how much will each mod bump premium?:S

  RB 182
Fully comp around 1400-1700 bearing in mind i had no mods so check around because alot of companies are different. Lowering for me was about 150 i think? Not sure on the others? :)

With direct line you don't build your own no claims bonus, you can only use it as long as you stay with direct line, you can't use it elsewhere, and 2nd of all, if you insure your car in your dads name, your insurance is well and truly void as he doesn't own and register the vehicle.

he does own + register the car, im just a named driver

didnt know you couldnt use no claims outside of direct line tho :S

is the car going to be "your "car, or are you sharing it?
if the former then you are looking about £2000 exhaut can add alot depending on your risk factor, age, experience sex, area. young male just past a test, it could make up about £300 of that, alloys can be charges ar £50 a corner.
the induction kit is waste of time on a 1.2 so i would leave that out, the suspension could add a couple hundred.
on your dads you might add about 2-300 for being named, and the mods will be intotala couple hundred quid miby. my dad only pays £175 ayear on his primera, he upgraded to the 17 inch wheels and they put the insurance up £60, which is alot on a policy of that value..
on alot of insurers wont touch any thin iwth mod and will not allow any mods. They might accept it with the exhaust but can forbid any further mods as woudl void the cover.
my adviseid read allthe small print very care fully.
allo look forward to a mandatory excess for between £250-400 plus the voluntary.
my dad had a 220 vol.excess on our laguna, some one crashed into me and i had an extra £250 to pay because of my age.- read small print, every word of it.

You can only use it if you stay with direct line, its in their terms and conditons, any other insurance company will do the same thing if you ask for it, just other insurance companies call it intro discount. Direct Line have a habit of making out they're the only company to introduce something when other companies have done it for years and don't feel the need to use it as a selling point.

Are you declaring yourself as the main user? I guess not, if its only £220? If you put mods on it, they're gonna know that you're the main user.

rob you payed that for fully com? i am getting quotes of 1577 for tpft. what company did you go with mate?

no way will a 17 yr old male pay 1400 for a clio, the cheapest quote i found was 1400 on a group 3 995cc citroen AX im guessing that a first time driver at 17 will pay 1600 for a that clio and well in excess of 2000 with them mods, i would get a yrs no claims b4 u get the mods... also add the mods one at a time that way genrally thre insurance company can say either it will be this much £££ or somtimes thell say "oh we will ad that to your exisiting policy right away sir" but if u declare them all at once then they take into acount them all and rape your bank account

Swiftcover.com, cover a whole list of mods as standard, check it out on their website.

EDIT: also price varies big style with the joy of the postcode lottery

  2000 renault clio 1.2 8v
put it this way exhaust n ik r a waste of time cus its only a 1.2 and it'll push ur insurance costs up mega high. the next thing u need 2 realise is do u rly need 2 let ur insurance company know about ur mods lyk wheels n springs n skirts? im nt lettin mine know cus it jus means if i crash they wont replace my mods they'll jus put the original oem parts on it

  clio mk2 p1 1.4 16v
yea fair point lol, i did it last yr i had a clip on exhaust that i never told them about :p, buh im fully comp on my clio and im gona be declaring everything major, bcuz i dnt want to have wasted all that muny to not be coverd... also in some cases if you dont declare mods you could void insurance then the insurance will pass to police bcuz u where driving withougd a valid insurance policy lmao... the insurers are ass holes sometimes but thats life

  2000 renault clio 1.2 8v
ryt i think i may b holdin off on the mods then untill i can afford proper insurance lol. Would they actually go as far as 2 declare my insurance void jus cus i have a set of wheels on it? fortuately i havnt lowered or added skirts yet

  Clio Dynamique 1.2 2005
do you think they will be that much bothered about an IK then? and how much you think declaring it would add on, 17 first time driver on a 1.2 mk2 ph1

Swiftcover.com covers all the following as standard and you dont have to tell them that you have even put them on.

  • Air conditioning
  • Alloy wheels worth less than £1000
  • Audio system worth less than £1000*
  • Modifications solely due to disability
  • Permanently fitted satellite navigation
  • Sunroof
  • Bull bars
  • Tow bar
  • Stainless steel exhaust
  • Roof racks, bars, bike racks or top boxes
  • Professionally converted to LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas)

  clio mk2 p1 1.4 16v
i would say that insurance would cover you for any wheels that are standard (personally i prefere the standard 182 alloys) any hoo if your tlking 17" alloys they dont come standard then jsut declare them the rest seems ok exsept the ik and sideskirt

  clio mk2 p1 1.4 16v
btw what wheels you getting on it, id defo put the alloys on still dont get left with steelys like me lol, if you got them put them on and i hazard a guess at about £100 premium increase depending on the size of the wheel and price, tell ur insurance the price not the wheel and thell insure the price wont they... theres always loopholes

  Clio Dynamique 1.2 2005

  Clio Dynamique 1.2 2005
