Insurance companies = Lottery

Just been playing around getting a few quotes which were all extortion.
So I did a quote with Admiral who im with anyway on the Lupo, fully comp etc exactly the same as the policy I took out with them in August, it came in at £1250?! I paid £950 in August and I was six months younger!

I was just doing a quote on the WTR as it happens! I will be well pissed off if my insurance goes up next year.

warning to you when it was the floods in 2001 norwich union rattled up my policy by £200 despite being a year younger.

I ranted, raved and got a 'supervisor' on the phone, the simple reason from him:

'we need to pay for all the houses that got damaged'

GREAT!

Literally just got off the phone this second to HIC.

Im 23, 1 years ncd, standard 182 and the premium was £2743. :D

I heard the guy in the background going "i dunno what to tell him, hes got a years no claims and stuff but its £2800". How he managed to knock off £100 i dont know, lol. I told him ill cancel my renewal on my old car and leave it there as ive had a better price, he said "we can price match if you want me to try?"

"Try knocking off £1500 then"

"erm"

"Thought so, cancel renewal, proof of no claims through the post please"

"Ok thanks for your call".

Really wanted to go with HIC, good customer service (aside from customers hearing conversations they shouldnt be!) and can have every mod on the planet without bumping your premium.

Nevermind, have to stay standard. :D

If you were with admiral, try Bell direct and elephant, they are all companies under the admiral umbrella, Bell direct usually cheaper for under 25's.

When the time comes I will shop around, it should go down I would hope as I will be a year older and have an additional years NCB.

Just swap every year, new customers are usually cheaper than existing ones.

If with elephant just swap between elephant and bell yearly, lol.

Cheers for the advice everyone, bell just quoted me over £1k which is a whopping £1700 off my last quote. Ill have to keep my car standard but nevermind, wasnt planning on doing much anyway and i can live with that for that price.

Oh and thats for 12 months too, was a bit dissapointed when i found it even cheaper but realsied it was the 10 month "bonus accelarator" option. All good though. Cheers again. :D

elephant managed to do it for £1270 fully comp, with after market exhaust declared, i seriously dont know how, as everyone else was quoting silly prices 2 - 3.5K

Cant wait to see my renewal in june LOL

Why do you have to keep it standard? Elephant and bell are dirt cheap for adding mods.

Insurance companys are there to make money like any other business. They dont hike their prices to make them uncompetetive, any hike in price has a reason. I know it's s**t to feel like you are being penalised but having a car like a RS is always going to put you in a higher bracket and you are always going to have to pay a premium for it. If you can't afford the insurance, don't have the car, simple as. I know it seems harsh, but it's true.
