insurance company asking for copy of licence

Car  Megane 225 f1
My misses insurance company have sent a letter demanding a copy of her driving licence and proof of address.
I have never been asked for this and it seems dodgy to me, its a form of ID which is being copied and there is no control over where it is stored or who has access etc.
Has anyone had an experience of this or anyone in insurance can shed some light on this and what she should do?
Thanks all

Yeah I've had to supply proof of my driving license to a company before, think it might of been Chris Knott insurance.

Yeah I've had that, just today I've sent off photos of log books too!

I work as an underwriter for a car insurance brokers. It's pretty standard with brokers these days mate. They'll look at licenses to check the address matches the policy and points have all been disclosed etc
