Insurance Mileage

  ph1 172
At the moment my car is insured for 5000 miles.
Ive had it on the road for 2 months and already done 2500 miles

How inforceable is the mileage on insurance? I was told that they can check using the MOT to see how many miles you have done but both my parents are insured fully comp in any car and i do lend them my car from time to time.

To be honest i will probably do less that 20 miles a week when things get into full swing at uni and it might even end up being under 5k over the year but i was just wondering what experiance people had with it.

It only an issue if you claim.

My mate at work used to do about 70k a year and told insurance it was 8k or something like that. Never was an issue as he changed his car ever few month it seemed but I think if you did crash they'd question your milage and then see how much they'd have wanted ie maybe £200 extra for say 20k a year vs 8k you originally told them and want that amount of cash or knock it out of the payout.

well im only 20 so when i doubled the mileage to 10k on the quote it nearly doubled the premium

as long as you havent doubled your annual mileage im sure you could milk that a little along with the fact that its only "estimated mileage" for a couple of thousand extra miles. im down for 10k a year but probs do closer to 12

personally i would give the insurance company the one finger salute :approve: , there no good if you want to claim, all they want is the money.

i'm down as 15k but probably do closer to 20. problem is some insurers dont wanna know if u get above 20-25k :dapprove: which makes no sense to me, as surely the more driving experience you have the less likely you are to have an accident...?

Yeah i always thought that was pretty silly as a lot of people that are fully comp are insured 3rd party on other cars. I am down to do 500 miles a year lol only kiddin

Because you spend more time on the road.

On my old insurance I was down as 12k but I was doing 25k. Luckily I'm on business now so I can do millions lol
