insurance no clames

hi all new to this insurance thing do ya need tax and mot to insure a car? was gona get an old banger for like 50 to 100 quid and leave it in the backyard to increse me no clames till i can aford to take on me mams car!

you can do it this way round, but not the other way round, i.e you need insurance to tax a car.

iirc insurance isnt valid unless the car is roadworthy.. ie taxed and mot'd

as long as the car is parked off the road you dont need tax or mot BUT i think for insurance purposes you do as in the event of a claim it needs to be road legal. however you wont be making any claims as you wont be driving it so will be 100% fine

I planned on doing something similar while waiting for a years no claims, in the end the 172 sat there for 2 days and I paid £1300 to insure it for 3 months!

Can get ADFT cover with some companies, ie not covered for third party risks so not road legal, just covered for theft etc, but I don't know if these policies would accrue NCD..
