Insurance on 172 with 0NCB

  Chocolate Bar™
ok then people... i'm 21, got 0NCB.

looking at two possibilities of:

a) keep my car (1.2 16v) and build up some NCB before moving onto something different. due to all my mods insurance isnt going to be cheap. so at least £1000

b) sell it and move onto a mk1 172. use the majority of my mods (as i'll get a black one lol) but just wondering how much the insurance would be. i'll be honest when i say ive not rung anyone yet, but would an estimate of £1600+ be about right ?

wouldnt really enjoy spending £1600ish on insurance, but surely the 172 is worth £600 more for the sheer fun of it.

Matey i changed from my dynamique to the 182 in december last year a month after my 21st....dynamique with mods was £930 a year 182 is £1220...i have 0NCB because i had an accident last year and the insurance decided it was a 50/50..

£1220 is my own policy, in a Glasgow post code, garaged, with my mum on the policy...if you can afford it go for it!!

that was the answer i was looking for :D

in going to a 172 i'd only use mods like my rear bumper, v6 spoiler etc. so not really big mods. whereas on the clio i have to declare carbon bonnet, smoothing, coilovers, interior etc.etc.

i think i could sell my car, with the mods seperate, and make close to 4k. which is only 500-1000 off an exclusive. just got to work out how bad the running costs would be, as i may have to commute in the not so distant future.

I'm 20 with 0NBC, now on my own policy. Some mods declared. 998£ Aberdeen postcode.

21 with a williams starting this weekend 670£ TPFT

Get it bought.

998 :O getting cheaper.

who are you both insured with, as im not sure who to start ringing.

also, what sort of mileage has been declared, as i would probably need at least 12k

will have to give admiral a ring, as ive heard good things about them.

doubt i'll be able to get any online quotes, but ill give it a shot now

crazy cheap insurance for you lot in here, Elephant wanted £800 to insure me on the 172 this year, 8yrs ncb, 25, no points, no claims, f**king jokers.

  Chocolate Bar™
right then, just done some online quotes...

modded 1.2 - 785 with gf on policy

172 - 1499

172 - 1085 with gf on policy

172 - 1500 with gf and all mods i'd probably do to it

interesting :D

i'd honestly be surprised if you could insure a modded 172 for that money. 0ncb is like sh*ting on the insurance companies doorstep with performance cars.

well they were done online at elephant and admiral, where you can buy online. - so if you bought them online they'd have to honour their prices. they do however make sense as it goes up with the ever increasing amount of mods.

wouldnt really call it a performance car, as ive already tried to quotes on older sillier cars and they're a definete no no :(

Yeah between 1-1.5k is a fair price, what you sould expect to pay, and IMO if you can afford that, do it. I will be when it comes down to that much for me!

im seriously thinking about getting a 172...i've 0NCB, 19 yr old female and i've been quoted £1200 with elephant and admiral! :)

yeah females always get the better bloody deal lol. i find it odd how on average my policy drops 500 quid if i add the girlfriend (she has got 4 years no claims however) but didnt think the diff would be that much

i can't believe this, i think when I first got my 172, i was 21, had 3 points, 4yrs ncb, 0 claims and I still ended up paying £1200, insurance couldn't have gone down surely?

To be honest insurance quotes will vary so much from person to person there is no way you can get a good idea of what yours will be from another person.

Im 21 with 2ncb and mine 822 from directline but i also got quoted 2k from a lot of other companies you just have to shop around a lot

its not like i live in a nice area either lol. I'm getting quotes on a ph1 172, so maybe thats the difference

true, you guys are probably looking at cars valued at 4.5-7k, mine was Brand New and 13k.

thats probably why gareth. my quotes are on a ph1 172 also valued at around 5k. the postcode makes a HUGE difference..if i was staying at home in lancashire it'd be £3,000 a yr, with unis address in the north east it drops to £1,200!

21, 3 yrs ncb 1 crash, best quote i had was £1000. Tho saying that have just tried churchill for my car and they have been very cheap, so may try them for a 172

  Turbo'd MX-5 MK4
priviledge have given me a quote of £450 for a brand new megane 225 valued at 17k, i just find it funny, because every night I sit in front of the TV and watch TV ads from AA, Churchill who guarantee to beat your quote, AA £1200! Churchill £650, jokers.

  Chocolate Bar™
i made a point of ringing up companies who said 'we can beat your best quote' and guess what they couldnt lol. admiral are still the best by far so will prob be going with them

  ph1 172
most of the companies that say they garantee to beat quotes have certain terms like:

must be over 25
must have 4YNCB
etc etc

  Focus RS, 182 gone
Im with privelage, and yes you do need 4 years NCB to be with them. Tesco always used to be good, and direct line.

Middo... my response to your post:

i just got a quote out of interest from admiral who i am with now with my valver

20, 1YNCB, 5k miles, £3k car, good postcode, no claims, no points... 2001 172 16v

fully comp £500 excess = £2500

TPFT = £1900

if i had 2YNCB it would be:

fully comp £500 excess = £2000

TPFT = £1700

might have to wait a few years
