Insurance Question

DB.

  BMW 440i
Looking to sell my 206 in the coming months and buy a 182.

Currently have 8 months left on my insurance.

If i sold my 206 in 2 months time, meaning i had 6 months left on the insurance policy, when you send the V5 off to change drivers, does that inform your insurance, or would i be ok not saying anything for a month while i go carless and earn another month (Maybe 2) towards my years no claim but not having the car?

As i will need the money from my car to buy my 182, and also im going to pay a little hike in the insurance for the remaining 6 months in order to be insured on the 182.

Thanks ppl, Dave

EDIT, totally misread that.

Id say nothing and let the 206 stay insured until you got a replacement.

Sorry, its not the clearest of posts but couldnt find a clear way to say it. Its clear in my head lol :)

Thats what im thinking of doing, not sure if when you fill in the documents to hand ownership over though that it will inform your insurance or if i can just keep it running seeing as ive paid for it upfront.

Surely if you change the owner of the vehicle and dont tell the insurance company they will still think that you are the vehicles owner? Which equals missleading the insurance company which means fraud. And you are getting a no claims bonus when your not driving.

They might not find out, but if they do good luck in finding another company to insure you at a reasonable price.

Not worth it imo :nono:

I've paid for 12 months up front with Direct Line and i pick up my new car next week, so they will just transfer the remainder of the policy over to my new car. And they steal a further 250 quid off me :(

That is what i was questioning whether that was an issue.

What happens in the time between owning the car you have sold, and buying a new one. (Could be 2 months as ill be at Uni so wont NEED a car)

Im with Bell btw

You can't insure something you don't have. Its like me insuring my £10k gold rolex ;)

You'll have to inform the insurance that you're not the registered keeper any more. Then start a new policy when you get the 182. Unfortunately you'll lose your NCB for the year so far.

Forgot to say, with my policy as long as you havent claimed in the last year, they will refund you the rest of the policy minus a 20 quid admin fee. Give them a ring and ask em what happens if you want to cancel the policy, direct line were really helpfull with me.

Although i cant cancel my policy as i claimed in the last year so i would get nothing. Dunno how bell works. :dapprove:

no way would I tell them, for the sake of a few weeks. you WILL NOT be claiming so whats the problem?

V5 will not notify insurance, sure it takes a few weeks to come through anyway.

I wouldnt cancel my policay, may end up i have to borrow the £3.5k to buy my 182 but im not willing to lose around 6 months of a year towards a years NCB. Im only 19 so need to keep them knocking up.

Just thought some policies may 'freeze' a policy in the time you are looking to buy a new car.

Im sure any insurance company will let you insure whatever the hell you want, but if there was a claim they would get interested in receipts etc.

Its up to you if you want take the risk. I would just speak to Bell, you wouldnt lose a years no claims as it would continue when you re-instated your policy probably. Im 18 with no NCB so i kinda know how you need as much NCB as you can get!

But your best bet is to talk to bell, otherwise its insurance fraud if you sell the car and they register it in their name. As in Bells eyes the car is in your name. Up to you....

I had a scooter wrote off on 23rd Jan 07 it was insured untill 30th Aug 07 I had paid up front was only a couple of hundred quid I didn't get around to cancelling it. I got the years NCB did nothing with it for a year then used it on my car insuance policy with directline and saved about 500quid.

However technically I should have cancelled it I didn't and it worked in my favour. I'm planning on selling my 1.2 a week or so before the end of my policy. Am I going to cancel my policy and then lose a years ncb for no money back? Obviously not.

dont know if its been said but they usually give you 30 days to change anyway

but youve been told what should be done, its up to you to decide what you think is right and wrong and whether you can get away with it
