Intermittent rear washer on 182

  182 FF, A6 Avant
Odd one, sometimes the rear washer works, some times it doesn't. I always hear the pump so it's not that. But sometimes no water comes out (and it isn't frozen as not cold enough.)

Where are the likely leaks?

Probably not a leak but more likely a blockage. As disgusting as it might sound, grab the pipe and give it a good suck and blow, hopefully some gunk will come out (make sure you spit ;)).

Lol, suck, blow and spit... That'll be fun to explain when the wife finds me on my knees.

Haha! If you don't want to get down and dirty on your knees, you can always attach a bike pump (or similar) to the end of the pipe, and pump away... that still sounds dirty, what is wrong with me?!

I'm assuming it's best to detach it from the boot lid hinge area and blow back towards the washer bottle.

Either way, if the blockage is down the middle somewhere it'll make no difference. Like I say, this isn't a definite cure but it's worked for me in the past.

If the problem persists change the washer jet motor, as you'll probably find the bung inside has swollen in size and is causing it to stick. I took mine apart and chopped it down, but it costs about £10 for a new one so not worth the hassle! :)
