Internet router/modem help

Upgraded a netgear dg834v2 for a wireless version all working ok via cable.

Tried to set up the wireless to my ibook today and had to reboot router/modem due to it not letting me log in to it. Set up wireless passwords etc, then it wouldn't let me connect to the net via cable (not normal).

Typed in static IP, netmask and DNS server from ISP still no joy. There is space for a gateway IP but can't find this on ISP account? do I need a gateway IP?

Currently back on the old non wireless modem, this one is not letting me log into it either. Don't want to reset it because I don't want to f00k it up also.

Can someone help me please?

cheers

Reset your router using the reset button and apply all your settings.

But for ibook use WPA security instead of WEP? because my ibook didn't like netgears WEP security

Well i have an older version of the netgear, but sometimes i cant log into it an have to reset it, it says server busy so its like the session has not ended from the last time even if its been days since i logged onto it really werid!

That sounds really odd that when you set it up to wirless that the cables would not work. One thing is for sure you wont be able to log into the router over a wireless connection (so i think)

I'm guessing that they still pick up the connection? but the internet does not work correct?

Also on the router is there an area where you can view the current logs? if so paste them in here :)

also

Try this..

start
run
type 'cmd'
type 'ipconfig /release'
type 'ipconfig /flushdns'
type 'ipconfig /renew'
now the bottom line should say 'default gateway ???.???.???.???'

now this ip address should be the IP of your router? is it?

Also if the routing is asking for a gateway ip address, i believe it could be the router which it connects to on your ISP end? if not leave it blank? maybe :p
