iPhone 3G Available Space question

I'm having a small problem with the available space on my 3G.

Could someone tell me what the "Other" Orange tab means at the bottom? I'm unsure what data this could be ... although I guess it could be the system software?

I'm trying to sync some CoPilot Sat Nav software that keeps failing - but the "other" space keeps getting smaller - I now can't add the new bit of software!

My "other" used space is only about 120mb so there's something wrong somewhere.
Has the free space only reduced since you tried to install CoPilot?

I just done a full reset - still the same.

I'm not sure to be honest, only looked earlier.

The phones cracked so I'm not sure if thats something to do with it?

Possible I suppose. I haven't jailbroken mine yet (since I don't really need to) so I don't know what effects it has on space.

What crack?

If you are using a mac you must have some sense, make a IPSW with pwnagetool restore to that.
Are you using appulous or pirated apps? TUT TUT if you are but that is the root of the issue.

I have no idea tbh - it was cracked by the person I bought it off from here ...

No comment on the Appulous question, but you can guess.

How easy is it to do? I don't particaully want to lose all of my contacts / installed programs ...

Sounds dumb - but really cant stand losing everything - happened before on an old phone!

Anything official will back up in iTunes. Contacts/texts/App Store apps.

Anything dodgy you will need to re-add yourself.

That issue is almost certainly an appulous issue.

I will give it a go tonight.

So am I thinking right? iTunes will back up contacts etc, which I can restore after it's been cracked again?

Update: Finally got hte crack working (tried a different one as I had problems with the Pwnage tool).

Droppe the phone this morning .... broke the screen - FAIL!

Got it booked into the Apple shop this afternoon to get it fixed / replaced. I've had to resotre it back to the original firmware again.

I'm going to see if I can pay a little more and get a 3GS ...

They won't replace it because you've dropped it.

I've been reading online that if there is a problem with the screen etc, they generally just replace the unit.

We will see though ... I go on holiday on Monday so could do with it being sorted by then!
