Iphone 4 over heating & battery draining rapidly

Since last night my iphone 4 has been overheating to the point of being hot to touch.The battery is draining rapidly, dropping 30% in an hour with no apps etc running. Has anyone experienced this before?

my mate upgraded to ios5 on wednesday on his 3gs and he got a message from apple saying his phone is overheating and he should turn it off and and let it cool, ive never heard of anything like it before

happened to a friends iPhone when they first got it, went to Apple store and it was swapped for a new one

Tried total system resets etc, but no use. Booked into the genius bar in glasgow tomorrow.
