Would you buy a 100,000 mile 182

Hi, I have seen a 100,000 mile 182 for sale. Has anyone had one at that sort of miles. I had a 172 sport a few years ago and would like this 182 but dont want to end up spending a fortune on it
Cheers

Someone on here has a 100k+ 172 and I'm sure he's not had any hassle with it.

Re: Would you buy a 100,000 mile 182

Thats probably the cheapest 182 so far! I assume its all motorway miles and fully serviced? If you're not doing huge mileages and everything seems good then Id say do it!

Re: Would you buy a 100,000 mile 182

no i would'nt but it would depend on what the car was for. Everyday use then no. Modified for track use then I wouls say yes... esp if most of the engine was going to be replaced with aftermarket parts.

Re: Would you buy a 100,000 mile 182

If I did buy the car it would just be used for everyday use. I only do about 4/5000 miles a year so it wouldn't go up too much over the next few years

Ok it looks like a no then. Thanks for all your help
Andrew

Guess the question is are you buying it because it's cheap? If so do you have the cash to fix it should it break? Yes, then go for it, but don't pay more than 5k for it - No movement? Get a clean 172.

100k! Most 1*2's are f**ked after 30!

Bull...they get better.

Re: Would you buy a 100,000 mile 182

I believe this is the car.

Tbh i'd want to see bills for the cambelt (which should have been done due to the mileage on it) plus things like the clutch/gearbox (if it's had new ones etc) etc. It says it has frsh, so I want to see all the bills they have for it.
If you get him down a bit you may get a bargain.

Id want the price to be about 600 notes lower personally. Then Id expect to see a load of receipts.

Bearing in mind motorway miles put no were near as much stress on the mechanicals as hard driving does. I wouldnt be shocked to see it on its original clutch!

Ali, in my experience they don't :)

Hmmm no cup packs, that to o further depreciates it. Try him at 4.5k cash he'd have had no interest I'd have thought.

my 172 is now on 109,600 and still runs lovely, still on original box and clutch, mine has fsh,and seems to have been looked after,so if you can get it cheap (like i did-2k) then id go for it

Re: Would you buy a 100,000 mile 182

False economy imo... unless you can get it for more like 4k, you can be pretty sure it may need some major work at some stage. Although the engine is probably fine. Will be motorway miles so, oil kept warm all the time and bits won't be as worn as 100k suburban driving. you have to remember your going to have trouble shifting it in future. If you do 30k in it it will be virtually unsellable imo.

Re: Would you buy a 100,000 mile 182

Having had a car over 100,000miles and now trying to sell it, no. However, my BMW has 180500miles and is still a first time starter reliable nothing ever goes wrong brilliant car... BUT I can't sell it for a reasonable price, because people are scared off by the mileage. So in the future, I will consider reselling the car and always buy a lower mileage one.

I would not buy it. It does look in good body work condition. Things could start to go wrong.

Mine's over 93k miles and has got here from new without too many issues. apart from a broken wire recently and one didgy spark plug it's been almost 100% reliable.

So long as there's clear evidence that it's been serviced correctly and by a reputable dealer/specialist I'd say no problem.

id possibly consider buying it - as Mark says if its been maintained correctly should be okay

Re: Would you buy a 100,000 mile 182

I wouldn't buy it for an everyday car. Maybe a track car but I'd want it a lot cheaper than that.

Re: Would you buy a 100,000 mile 182

i'd buy it depending on price, run it into the ground and then change the engine
