is it illegal to have 2 insurance policys on one car?

I have time for a long story. Dont start work for another 2 hours.

ok then lol

well im only 19 so pay thru the nose for my insurance on my car, my girlfriend needs a new car and i need a van, now if i change the car on my policy i cant have her as a named driver because shes too young, if i want to end my policy because i pay alot for it, they will kill me with a HUGE bill, plus i loose my ncb so my idea was to change her policy to said new car and my policy, and problem solved, and yes the remaining months left on my insurance would be cheaper on the car we'd share than the fee to cancel my policy

yeah its hard to explain, hense why i put long story

if your not supposed to have 2 insurance policys on a car, whats the chances of getting nicked for it?

It's not "illegal" having two policies, but it's not allowed, and they will cancel each other out. You won't be covered basically.

Might get flagged on insuarace database and the police are likely to stop you if there's 2 insurances on the vehicle when they look on their computer.

The reason it's illegal is really for protection against insurance fraud, easy to smash up a car and claim twice if you're a dishonest cnut.

spose thats fair enough then

Simple option here, get rid of the 182. :)
as much as that sounds the right option, i'd rather go without a van, let her get a bus than pay what they want to end my policy lol

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, I suppose. Lesson here: Don't buy what you cannot afford.

no can easily afford it, just purposes change, when i bought it her car was fine, work would let me use the van out of work hours, where as now i cant use the van at weekends and her car could do with replacing, i was just gonna be the nice boyfriend and give up my pride and joy so she can have something a bit more reliable

i can afford to cancel the policy too, just aint worth it

How long have you got left on your policy? You can insure a car for a month after you have sold it apparently, i did this when i got rid of my BMW so i could carry the policy onto my next car.

4 and a half months, so thats why im in the position where it isnt worth paying the fee, and why i want to keep it running to get my ncb, could probably get away with it, but if i had an accident, or her we'd be stuffed!

It's not illegal apparently, but some (most) insurers will only give you cover on the basis that you only have one policy on the car (theirs).

not reading the fine print FTL!

buy a £50 motor (complete heap!), and transfer the insurance onto that!
just leave it on the drive / get it scrapped and get £100 scrap value, and just keep the logbook!

then re-insure the clio!

Or just transfer the policy onto something you know is already scrapped. The insurers won't check.

:D

buy a car off someone, fill out the logbook,
then call the scrappie whilst still at the sellers house to come collect it! saves even having to get it home!

and you get +10 man points if they give you more than you bought it for, infront of the previous owner!!!

as said, insurance will never check, premium might even go down if it's a 1.1 fiesta!

quick search

you'll get most of the money back on the scrap value!
