I found the same thing when looking for a really nice 205 GTi. Like you say you may have to wait a while for the right car to come up. Those with the good ones will be keeping hold of them.

Isnt there a little firm somewhere that sells partly restored 205 GTIs? At a bit of a premium I think but they tend to have nice ish ones. They've a webby somewhere?

Just GTi's - they are very poor and overpriced.

You're obviously looking in the wrong places then.

And wtf you on about? Anything before M/N looks s**t? Phase1's are by far the better looking car. Only good Ph2 thing is the front grill.

Mine was an L reg and only had a few bits of rust by the doors and only mods were OZ Super T's and lowered about 35mm.

Market seems to be on its arse at the moment, it has been for a few weeks.

Ive been looking for a valver now every single day on 3 different forums, egay, pistonheads, trader etc for the past 5 months and since the begging of februrary there has hardly been any really nice ones going.

Sounds like your after the same thing to me - a phase 2 valver with relatively low miles, and your prepared to pay a bit more to get a really nice one.

I think the market will be on the up very soon. As summer starts to poke its face around people will be chopping their cars in for something a bit nicer.

Re: Is it just me or have most valvers

Patrick - decent valvers were hard to come by four years ago, I dread to think what some of them look like now !

The thing is though, that when a minter (and I mean a minter) does turn up no one wants to pay a fair price for it, most want to pay rubbish money.
I had a mint standard example & I sold it for top doallar, only because I held out on my price. The first person who saw it bought it - same with all of my cars.

There are some decent ones out there - but it depends on when people want to sell them.
If you really want one hang in there mate.

^ yeh i know what you mean mate

im going to see this 1 on saturday morning : http://www.williamsclio.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20317

it seems to be a very good price and i have spoke to the bloke on the phone and he has all the documentation from the williams the lump came from along with history i think, also he seems like a genuine bloke, also he is putting a brand new alternator on it 2morow as the current 1 just packed up, the cambelt and tensioners and service was done when engine was dropped in and it was carried out by a garage which he has reciepts for.

sounds like a might have found my minter! :) only thing is he has taken the williams 3 stickers off :( lol i will have 2 find myself a set on egay!

Looks nice that one mate, noticed it a few days ago myself. History is the most important thing - if the willy lump has it as well then you should be safe.

Dont think i could afford the insurance on a hybrid, but it definately looks clean - even the arches are mint from what i can see.

Hope its a good one
