Is it possible to bring the 182 up to Trophy standard?

I would like to know if it is possible to get a Clio 182 Cup the the same B-road eating capability as a 182 Trophy without actually fitting the sachs dampers and different spring the Trophy has?

What coilovers are going to improve the Cups b-road handling, i would have thought coilovers would just make it crash over bumps?

Ive just had a rear anti-roll bar, prolines and camber bolts fitted on my 182. This is a fantastic b road setup!!! Its very stable and much flatter than standard, but still soaks up the bumps and isnt crashy as all! Still rides like a standard 182 just much improved!! There is loads of grip to be found and i dont feel like ive compromised anything!! It only drops the front by 20mm and the rear by 15mm.

In my opinion you won't get anywhere near the capabilities of a trophy without spending more than what a set of sachs suspensions will set you back secondhand.

I've driven a fair few cars on a lot of different suspension setups and for me nothing has come close to the trophies ability to rocket along a road with such control and compliance.

Seriously, those that think a Trophy is actually 'faster' down a backroad compared to a 182 cup need to have a think.

This is a valid point as i don't think a trophy would be any faster necessarily down a back road than the other clios, for me I love the way the trophy drives compared to other clios on the road, so much more control and feedback and precision. This is of course just my opinion.

My driving is perfectly adequate thank you.
I am fairly sure the same driver in a Trophy would be quicker down a b-road than they would be in a Cup. If the suspension can damp the bumps out better the driver will be able to keep accelerating and pretty much every test i have read about the Trophy says it grips harder than the Cup so i don't see any reason why a Trophy wouldn't be faster down a b-road.

Ive had both, in fact ive had a 172 cup, 182 cup and 2 x trophies ;)

The difference is more is the way it feels, not the actual speed of the thing, which is measured in tenths, not seconds around a track.

I've had a trophy and cup, you can hustle the cup along the backroad and it will maybe drop a couple of MPH through a corner compared to the trophy.

The thing about the trophy is it doesnt feel dangerous, it keeps it's composure and when on the limit you can really feel it working underneath you.

The best road set up i've drive on was my trophy with eibach sportlines and whiteline anti roll bar. I know track driving is different to the road so maybe a set of billsteins or KW's would be good for you if you intend on tracking it as well as fast b road blaster

Lol, indeed-why did I fork out for additional spring sets to play about with, wish I'd known this beforehand tbh. Will try harder to dumb things down in future :(

That's what I love about the UK-our consistent year round climate/temps, be it the peak or summer or the depths of winter. Oh wait... Damping aside, ride height is clearly a critical aspect of the tuning process. To quote Fred once again:

Another set of knackered Billys in today btw. LOL. Thats what you get for developing dampers on silky smooth tracks and not on the roads they're used on.

Just rebuild them. Oh wait... :(

Besides, development is irrelevant unless it's been done in conjunction with a jolly to the ring is it not? I may however be wrong, that could of course simply be an internet/ring road racer myth.

The Trophy suspension is lowered a further 10mm at the front with shorter springs. The dampers are supplied by Sachs Race Engineering and have a unique damping force/velocity curve. Normally only used in competition cars, these dampers cost 10 times more than a conventional road car damper and feature a remote reservoir to accommodate nearly 50% of the oil and gas. This remote reservoir provides three benefits:
It liberates enough space to package a thicker and therefore stiffer damper rod, thus increasing camber compliance. The increased oil volume brings better thermal stability, to enable the damper to maintain optimal performance at all times. The space liberated allows the hydraulic components and damper valving to work more effectively
Another unusual feature of the damper is that a hydraulic bump stop replaces the usual physical elastometric one. This gives a much more progressive stiffness rate once the bump stop starts to work and thus allows a lower ride height without compromising bump travel. The objective of the lower ride height is to improve the turn in and reduce understeer.
