is moding a 1*2 engine/exhaust system worth the time and money?

  Italian 3.2 V6
do you feel the results? like is it worth remapping, fitting a good performance exhaust filter etc etc.. or is it like many other cars... just not worth the money?

if you add them al together i would say so but ive only got a bmc and its just makes a good sound whether its doing anything i dont know.

  Focus ST
Would definately recommend remapping

Decat, Matched inlets, Mani, Exhaust, Filter, Remap - Should see good results

As with any N/A engine, for the money you spend you get Very little compared to turbos and that.

Remaps help and can make power alot smoother tho.

If you plan on keeping the car for a while then yes. If not no.

Remap and matched inlets are the two mods I noticed the most improvements from.

I have a cat back exhaust on my cup which I find even if it doesn't give much power that it changes the experience with the sound so would def think about doing it to yours.

  RB + LY 182 FF
i have a full powerflow system so i would say yes i can feel a big difference from my previous 172 which was standard tho my current car is also chipped with induction kit also.... not too sure how much bhp im gettin tho tbh

ok sounds promising... i was just thinking of getting a really good quality sounding and performance exhaust and some good performance induction equipment aswell as remapping it should give it some more beans and smoother power delivary.

If you're doing it for sound or looks then yes, if you want power and 172/182 isn't practical then consider a 1.6 engine

Wait until whatever you want to modify falls off, then yes, its worth it.

Exactly what I did

Obviously didn;t take too long for the standard Renault exhaust to fall apart

I've had a K-tec de-cat and stealth system fitted along with their Panel filter and don't think there's much difference although can keep my mate's Coupe honest unless it's a long straight..

Feels like it pulls harder in 5th as well now though

Got an RStuner for a remap and might go for Matched Inlets as well though.

imo, buy a faster car

Screwing with the engine is going to mean brake up-grades and the posibility of impairing the already, how you say, intresting reliabilty status of the Clio's

As any spanner connoissuer will tell thee, theres no replacement for displacement

Modifying the 1*2 engine is a complete waste of time and money. Because it's NA you have to spend some serious £££ (talking thousands) before you seem any good gains.
Instead of spending that money save it, sell the clio and buy a faster car.

I really don't see the attraction of spending thousands on making a Clio 1 second faster - complete waste of time and money.

This isnt the argument mate, the argument is, is it going to be expensive/plausible/worth while spending a fortune on modifications to a normally asspirated car when you could spend the same on a Subaru/Mitsubishi and get far better gains and retain relaibility

I still think spending a little money on a remap, matched inlets etc is worth it if your keeping the car as it just makes the car so much nicer to drive. Saying that I wouldn't have paid the full price for matched inlets!!

personally i have spent about 2k on my cup - matched inlets, ITG filter, s/hand schrick cams, ktec decat and custom map

i have seen rolling road (RStunings) proven peak gains of 20bhp and 15lb/ft of torque. at 7000 rpm the car is making 26bhp more....

so thats £100 spent per bhp

Yeah and u just said 2 ways which he could do that for 300 quid with power gains. He ain't got a scooby or mitsi has he so just answer his question.

You won't see massive gains unless going to ITB's but modding will change the driving experience i.e. a decat will make it more free revving, remap will smooth power etc.
