Is my car fucked

  Fabia vrs tdi
My car does mainly sitting driving and sits at around 24mpg, i just drove 4 hours at 60ish and it only went up to 26mpg.
I havent reset the computer in around 600 miles it just seems to be taking the piss slightly, the last time i did reset it the mpg was sittin at 37 after the same long drive and it took a few few weeks around 4 to drop as low ar 24mpg i just thought after the long drive it would rise alot quicker.
I know this is only your average mpg so should i just ignore it.
Also whats the best screen wash to use as last night mine had frozen but it was saying it was minus 18 at one point and as soon as i poured water on wind screen it froze so the journey was a bit of a nightmar.

The weather has lowered mpg, mines at 25 and I reset every fill up. I find that the best way to measure fuel consumption. Screen was wise you will need to dilute it less.

Yeah all service last month, just running on 95ron.
But the exhaust emissions light did come on last month i just assumed its due to the decat, maybe there is nothing wrong with it its just averaging out my mpg and seeing as that drive was only 4 hours compared to hundreds of hours of city driving.
I will check how many litres car car has and work out manually what mpg im gettin, i put 30 pound of petrol in yesterday it said that i had 185 miles for that but the tank was near empty when i filled up. I will reset trip computer today too.

Put shell v power in ya tight c**t. Runs better and ya get more mpg and keeps ya fuel system cleaner. Did you just choose to ignore the sticker on ya petrol cap and the manuel clearly says if ya don't use 98 ya ain't got a 182.

Been told by lots of people petrol dont make much of a difference on our cars lol.
I have no sticker on my cap that i noticed i will look next time.

  Better than yours. C*nt.
182s say 98 on the sticker. Whilst I doubt the world will come to an end if you don't use it, I don't think it's a good idea to ignore what the manufacturers say you should use.

In some cars it doesn't make a difference, ya ecu has to recognise it which the clios does even if ya ignore the cleaning capabilities, but money wise I always use v power and have a card and every quater I always get petrol vouchers which do bring it close to 95 prices anyway. Get 1 sorted asap and you'll realize the difference straight away.

The MPG on the trip computer is an average figure. It is not exact and doesn't reflect your actual fuel economy at that precise moment.
Until you reset it, it will take an average of the fuel consumption since the last time it was reset.
If you've been ragging the car and chewing fuel on a lot of short journeys the MPG on the trip computer won't go up much even if you do a long journey. This is because it's an average value since the last time the trip computer was reset. It does not show the MPG for the current journey unless you reset the trip computer before you set off.

Make sense?

Re: Is my car f**ked

Lambda sounds funked. Emissions light + low mpg.

Indeed...or the 02 sensor, i know its common fault on the lower engined models, it happened to my 1.2 16v, was running on 3 cylinders, sounded like a boxer engine LOL

Okay okay i will only use v power from now on.
I think the o2 sensor has came on due to strange readings from the front to the rear one cos there is no cat. Most people who have a decat end up with their light coming on and staying on.
I reset computer just drove for an hour and seems to be fine now.

Rite read few threads on petrol, and will give tesco 99 a try but see it will take a few tanks to notice a difference

Is it warming up? You'll loose thermal efficiency if it's still cold which will give you poor MPG, not to mention the cold start enrichment

Thermostat is fine sits in the middle takes about 5 mins to get there from cold, like some guy said its just an average reading of my mpg and me thinkin it would rise higher due to the recent long trip.
Will only use 99ron from now on but tescos seems the cheapest will apply for a shell card and go for v power membership then use shell from then on, there aint a shell garage where i am at the moment its mainly dominated by super market stations, i have the choice of tesco or morrisons until i get back to glasgow

I had a similar problem when I first got my current Clio. Didn't run too well, exhaust tips were very sooty and only achieved around 24-26mpg. Filled it up with then Optimax and gave it a real good blast for over an hour and got everything nice and hot. Filled up again and reset the trip computer and achieved around a more normal 32-34mpg. It's been running perfectly ever since. It think the Clio's engine thrives on having a regular thrashing session.

Since my Clio had probably sat around on the forecourt for extended periods and only did lots of short journeys, the internals probably got "coked" up and needed a good blast to blow out all the crud. Give it a go, it might just work for you too.
