Is the PH1 172 becoming rare and collectable??

  PH1 Clio 172
Probably been asked loads. Just come back from the Renault dealership looking at Mobility cars for people at work and the salesman spotted my PH1 outside.
He seemed gobsmacked by it especially as it was standard, clean and looked after.
He said they rarely see them there now and in its state are rare and collectable and that I should hang on to it, keep it as it is, not modify it and will be a sought after vehicle.
Could he have a point or was this just patter??
He seemed genuine about it though!!

Patter TBH.

They're not rare car's, and parts are so readily available and cheap it wouldn't take much to pick up any car and turn it back into a "Standard mint example".

That said though I live on the Isle of Wight and I've only seen one other PH1 over here....s**t loads of PH2

Not yet, but like Series 1's of everything, the best, rarest colors and specs will be worth a fair bit.

Look at RS turbos, the MK1's are stupid money for what they are, but you've got a long time to wait before it appreciated.

Anyone that is young with space to spare and money to invest it wouldnt be a bad idea to buy a mint one and put it on blocks for a decade, 172 exclusive isn't a bad shout either, nor the trophy but Cars will not make money until they hit the 20yr mark or are truly rare and exceptional cars ( Cossies, Lotus Carltons etc )

I wouldn't be surprised if there are less Clio Ph1 172's in the UK than series 1 RS Turbo Escorts.
Only 1200 odd ph1's officially passed through Renault dealerships the rest being made up of car supermarkets. Production run didn't last long where as the Series 1 RS turbo was mass produced.

In terms of value though i don't think they will ever reach RST S1 money. Hard to find and rare yeah but not mega money.

I think a nice tidy example is well sought after and should sell very easily although I don't really think they're rare to the point where high price tags can go on them etc.

I sooner would pay £2k for a ph1 than a ph2 though.

I concur with the ph1/trophy comment.

Keep a mint one in a bubble until 2025, sell for profit.

I even think a well kept raider will go for loads in the future with it being the 'last of the na' hot clios :dapprove:

Then there's the vee, they should go back up soon

I can never really understand people who keep cars locked away for years too not make much money (yeah i know there will be cases that people have) and then look back and regret not driving/enjoying them

I can't see a ph1 172 ever becoming a collectible lol. Maybe it will become slightly more desirable than a ph2 to some people eventually but that's it.

  A special one.
Ive had two very good offers on my car, one was 3.5k and the offer still stands but I turned it down.

I love my ph1 and id miss it loads if I was to sell.
To me being an old git, they are getting rare as i remember when the R5 turbos where new, also after 10 years Renault stop making the bits for them so it wont be long before main dealer parts are no longer available.
Ive had many cars over the years and still kick myself about a few that ive sold.

Wow. Id be slightly considering that if it was on mine. Probably wouldn't sell, but it's at the tag where you'd have to think about it.

I've had plenty of offers and people asking if i'm selling it, to which they get the standard response of "£5k and it's yours". ;)

Not being big headed here, but I do drive my own van every day also my wife has a car.
The Clio is my hobbie, something I enjoy wasting my money on etc...
Its also the car that got me onto this site where ive got to chat with and meet some great people.
It gets lots of great comments and you dont get to see many good examples anymore, sometimes its not all about the money its about having something you love and enjoy owning.

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
Id probably let mine go for 4/4250 - or 5 with the recaros- All the bits add up to 7k +

Or sell it for 3k standard & sell the rest for 2/2500-

Just ticked 59k today with FRSH & belts done this year @ Birchdown.

I think you'd be mad in the head if you kept and cherished a ph1 because you thought one day it might be worth a few quid..there's over a 1000 on the road that's hardly rare. The clio williams isn't even regarded as much of a collectors car you can still pick them up for fuk all these days.

Maybe the clio v6 or r26r might become a collectors as there's only 80 of those.
