basically had a test drive on a 172 today, mk2 silver normal ,

have to be said nice car pulls well, nippy i liked the shift light thingy

and the dealer showed me a fax from head office which was a spread sheet type table under a renault header

listing all the tpes of renault and at the bottom were two rs models normal 172 and 172 , apparently you cannot now get a normal 172 for love or money and there are none to be offered in 2004, and cups 40 left this year and none to be offered in 2004,

now i realise fully that this could a dealer ploy to sell cars at the end of the year to meet targets and stuff but is this actually true,

btw i still unsure as i want a cup not a normal one and the normal seemed v spritely but they didn have a cup test car

Picked up my new 172 last Friday, dealer told me production of current 172 will stop next Wednesday. He said they are still taking orders for 172s though from the supply that is currently available.

172 CUP PRODUCTION HAS ALMOST FINISHED AND 2003 BUILD OF CLIO HAS ALL BUT SHUT !!

Although what your dealer didnt tell ya is the 2004 production starts very soon.

So for the last year of the current clio their will either be no performance variant (excluding V6). A bit like when there was no valver for the last year of the Clio 1 (although I think that was down to the cost of making a valver bonnet for the revised fromt end, or possible emissions issues at the time)

Or something else will be available.

In this case I think the latter. i.e 180+, twin exhaust or whatever.

The last day 4 ordering 172 was 21 oct. There will not be a 172 4 2004. Thats official from the renault dealer that I work for.

You cant order a new 172 and you can only order a Cup for a couple more weeks, so act fast!
