1m length of garden hose pipe with a funnel on one end works wonders

Thanks for the replies.

Still working on this in the dark.

I put the car down off the stands so that the car was level but when i seemed to loose a lot of oil by the time I got the but back in.

How will I know if I've lost too much?

it will be fine, it only needs filling till it starts to spill out. Obviously with the car level.

you always end up getting a lot of spill on a 200 for some reason.

There seemed to be a quite a lot came out but maybe I just filled it with a bit too much. If there isn't enough oil in would I feel it when changing gears.

I meant to ask about the oil, Renault parts said they think it's 75w80 buy couldn't tell me how much. The local motor store said 75w90. The car is a 2013 tce 90 eco. I ended up going with the 75w90 fully synthetic gl4.

This whole process started out as a simple service to save me a bit of money. We normally got the dealer to do it but their prices are getting stupid.

I left the oil change to the end thinking it would take me 30 mins only to realise that the bolt holding the plastic tray on was rusted solid and it took me an hour to get it off. In a rush I took out the first plug I saw, which I later realised was the gearbox but not before I poured in 4 litres of new engine oil!

This has been 3 evenings worth of work for something that should have taken me an hour!

You need to fill it while the car is flat on the ground. If you've got the front jacked up then it will overfill and spill out when you put the car level.

I had it down off the stands on the drive and I used the hose pipe and funnel. There is a tiny slope on the drive but it's pretty level so I'm hoping that I just put too much in. The problem was trying to get my hand in to get the plug back on.

After doing a bit of reading on here I have realised that I should maybe be thinking about changing the timing belt too, the car is just coming 5 years with 25 miles on it. Don't know if I would be able to do that job myself or not.

Fair enough, it will be ok then. The correct level is when it starts to dribble out, and if it's on a flat surface it can't dribble out to a level below the correct level so will be fine.

Without wanting so sound like a nob, id personally take it to a garage for the belt to be done if it's taken you 3 days to change the oil.

Changing the timing belt is a lot more involved and if it goes wrong will cause serious engine damage.

I would agree with you! Though in my defence I used to do the oil change on my wifes old car in half an hour ?

I just logged into renault and it is saying the belt and roller service isn't due until August 2019 but from what I read on here a lot of people are sayingt to change after 5 years not 6.

The car doesn't have a lot of miles on it but I don't know if that makes much of a difference or not.
