Jack-D's Racing Blue 182

Re: Jack-D's FF RB 182

I was on my way home last night when the car started making a really loud scrapping/rattling noise. First thoughts that went through my mind were either the engine had gone to pot or my exhaust had fallen off.

Luckily it was neither of these and it was just my arch liner that had come off. Jesus it was loud though! New plugs are now on order.

Next up are some lowering springs.

Re: Jack-D's FF RB 182

can't you just mount the powerflex rubber a 1/4 turn so it moves to the right? (also lowers a minor bit)

Re: Jack-D's FF RB 182

Yeah that's a good idea, the main reason I got these mounts was because the exhaust was sitting too low. I might try it when the weather is better and see how much lower it will sit compared to now.

Re: Jack-D's FF RB 182

I managed to get a set of Cooksport springs last week and got them fitted yesterday. Really happy with them so far!

Now it's a bit lower I think I need to look into spacing, so I'm thinking 15mm front and 10mm rear.

I've also bought some new plugs and refitted the arch liner that came off last week.

I'm trying not to spend much on the car ATM as I've got a holiday coming up next month. So instead of buying spacers I went for the 'cheaper' option and bought some cleaning gear.

I gave it a once over today and used the things I had bought - Bilt Hamber clay, AG tar remover, iron-x, DJ sour power & banana armour.

Some shiny pics:

Spacers will be purchased after the holiday.

I wasn't planning on purchasing any spacers this month but some 15mm rear hub ones came up in the for sale section so I got them.

I got them on today and I'm pleased with how they look, although I need to get the fronts done too as they look a bit weird in comparison now.

Will get some better pics on the weekend, if it's dry...

I've also noticed my number plate is on the wonk so need to sort that too :)

It's been a pretty eventful week with the car.

Firstly, I caught my exhaust on part of the automatic gates getting into work, resulting in it coming apart where the cat meets the centre section.

Luckily the clamp stayed in place until I got home, so I've refitted it with a new nut and bolt for now. I'm still going to purchase a new clamp as this one looks like it's seen better days.

Secondly, I got pulled on the way to work for my 3/4 plate so I've had to refit the standard plate. I've attached it with sticky velcro so I can still change the plates over if need be.

After all of this I decided to go for a scenic blast to make myself realise why I do love the car and also got some better pics of how it's sitting with the rear spacers on.

Can't wait to get some front spacers, but I'm not sure whether to go 15mm or 20mm? Anyone on Cooksports get any scrubbing with 20's?

Car is looking very tidy.
I cant wait to get my Cooksports fitted but getting all the bits together to do a full suspension refresh. I've got a set of 20mm front spacers sat in my pile of bits. So I'm hoping the don't rub with the cooksports.
Really like what you have done with the bullets, my standard ones always look grubby.

Cheers mate. I would like some silver turini's in the future but not sure if my bullets and diamonds will look out if place then. So I may have to go anthracite.

I bet your Cooksports will feel fantastic when they go on with the refreshed suspension!

I run 20mm spacers on the front of mine with no issues, I have however got 1.5 degree of camber on the front but being honest I could probably run 25's on the front and still be okay.

Car looks lovely.

  RB 182
I made a bit of a spontaneous decision on Sunday night and arranged to view some Cup Turini's tonight.

I knew they needed a refurb and were missing a centre cap before I went to see them, but I got them for a decent price so I'm happy.

DSC_0516_zps9367e261.jpg

The plan is to source another centre cap, refurb them in the next month or so and then get them on!

  RB 182
I test fitted the Turinis today and I really like them in silver. They sit really well on the rear with the 15mm spacers too!

I'm unsure now whether to refurb them in anthracite to match the bullets & diamonds or stay fresh and re-do them in silver.

  Focus st3 & t5.1 day
im on cooksports and have 20mm front spacers, 195/45/16 tyres on et37 oz superleggs

they do rub on the bumper bracket bumps in the wheel arch liners on full lock, but nothing major to worry about :)

  RB 182
As much as I like the silver I think at first glance it makes the car look like a lower spec. I'm still unsure ATM...

I think I am going to go with 20mm spacers after I've sorted the wheels out. I'm going to run 205's on them but hopefully that won't make much difference.

My 3M headlight kit arrived on Friday and I got stuck into the headlights yesterday. They weren't in bad shape overall but the top part was noticeably worse and has bugged me since I've had the car.

I'm now happy with my shiny lights :approve:

I was going to give the car an oil and filter change as well as it's been about 6,000 miles since I bought it but when I was just about to get stuck in I realised I didn't have a sump plug key. That has now been bought and the service will be done next weekend.

I've also changed the exhaust clamp with a fresh one from Renault and purchased the missing centre cap for the Turinis, so they are now ready for the refurb when funds allow.

  RB 182
Thanks mate :)

I think once I have bought some front spacers, refurbed the Turinis and put them on and then possibly a cup splitter (if I ever find a decent used one for sale) the exterior will be complete.

  RB 182
I finally got around to changing the oil and filter today with my items from Renault Wolverhampton, which should keep it ticking over until it's next proper service next year.

DSC_0693_zpse09eaddf.jpg

I also bought a new rubber slam panel strip and got that on today too.

DSC_0697_zpsdece858d.jpg

Once the exterior is done I'm going to start on the bay. The inlet manifolds are quite grubby and I want to get an engine cover and will probably get it painted RB and black :)

  RB 182
I dropped my Turinis off last night to get refurbished and went for the 205 -110 anthracite as this is what my diamonds and bullets are in, so hopefully it will all tie together nicely when finished. They should be ready at the start of November.

I've ordered some Conti SportContact 3's to wrap them in once they are back with me and also some C5 to seal them up before they go on ready for the winter.

I started on it's big winter detail yesterday and got up early this morning to finish it off before the rain comes. I got a quick picture of what will hopefully be the last pic I upload with it on the 182 alloys.

(The quality from Flickr compared to photobucket is awesome too!)

I picked up my Turinis from Si today and I'm very pleased with the outcome, this finish is awesome! One of them was totally battered before but has come out perfectly. No filler was needed either which was nice.

I went for 205-110 so they are a perfect match to the bullets and diamonds already on the car.

The products had already been purchased, so I got straight on to it and I'm continuing to seal them now ready for the new tyres to go on hopefully next week.

(Apologies for the dark/fuzzy iPhone pics, my Mum as taken the camera on holiday)

Mums on holiday so turinis on the bed is allowed then;)

The car looks great mate, very clean example!

The tyres got fitted this week and I managed to get a better picture of the colour as they looked almost black with my iPhone pics.

The alloys were ready and waiting to go on but I had some trouble with the locking key. I managed to get one off but now it's become too rounded to remove any more.

Does anyone know if a 22mm socket is the right size to bash over the locking bolt to remove it? I've got two spare bolts so need to get two more and they will keep me ticking by until I get some TPi ones.

Pretty gutted I couldn't get them on this weekend though.

Its a shame you don't live near me. I have a locking wheel nut removal tool at work which forms the correct shape to remove the locking wheel bolts :\

Where do you work mate? Independent place or franchise?

The reason I ask is because the independent tyre shop I use has done it for me in the past and they've tapped out the locking bolt from the back and saved it but that cost half an hours labour so it'd probs cost about £45 to get these three removed. Which is why I'm going to have a go myself.

  Clio 172 Cup
Independant wheel, tyre and alignment specialist. My tool forms the shape of the locker itself. Basically becomes a new locking wheel nut tool just to remove them. This tool does the same job as the broken/rounded locking wheel nut remover. Its £10 per wheel usually, just because the bits which form the shape of the locking wheel nut are disposed of afterwards and the bits cost us a little bit :)

This tool in no way will damage any threads or alloy wheels. Would be just as if your locking wheel nut tool wasn't broken in the first place.

  RB 182
A lorry chucked up a big stone onto the windscreen at the start of last week but there was no indentation or mark on the outside or inside of the screen, just in the middle which was weird. I readied myself for the inevitable moment when it turned to a crack and eventually after 3 days it did.

I got the windscreen changed and although it was only £75, I feel the money could have been spent on better things like front spacers :(

I also booked the car into my local tyre place to finally get the locking bolts removed. I had 3 spare normal bolts so bought one more off eBay for £2 just to keep me ticking by until I get the TPi ones. So I was now able to finally put the Turinis on.

I got up early-ish this morning and braved the cold to give it a quick clean and get the wheels changed. After months of waiting i'm very happy with the outcome, just need some 15/20mm spacers on front now :approve: The two fronts still have the budgets on that came with the alloys as they've got 5-6mm of tread on them, so I felt it would be a waste not to use them up.

I also spoke with Si at SprayShack when I picked up the wheels about have a respray on the drivers side, as you can see the paint is starting to flake on the door. We agreed that I should ride out the winter and then look to do it in the spring so need to get saving for that too :)
