Jet Washing

Hi,
I've always been under the impression that jet washing the dirt off a car, before hand washing, causes scratches due to the bits of dirt. Is this true?

I don't know why, but I've always thought that this is the case :S

Also, any do's and don'ts for jet washing cars? I want to give my car a wash but it's too cold so I'm just going to jet wash all the snow/salt/crap off that seems to be building up.

Jet washing it before the two bucket method won't do it any harm. I always give mine a quick rinse and snow foam, with the PW.
