Just bought a new clio 1.4sport

Is a w reg clio 1.4 sport.

2800 47k on the clock.

[URL=http://www.wisebuyers.co.uk/mo...ecifications/Renault/Clio+(1998-01)/RE001501/[/url]

Wisebuyers are saying thats the stats, and its an insurance group 3... However some insurance quotes im getting back are not like that of a group 3 car... coming in at the cheapest was £1200... yikes :D good job i can just about afford it.

Funny really though because i got a quote for an audi a3 1.8 sport for £1060

Anybody got anything to say about the car, anyone own one, i;m thinking its not all its cracked up to be from that site. Seems more meatier than it says for top speed of 106... there was 160 on the clock :D

I used to have one before the 172.

Was quite nice.

They have the same seats as the 172 but in cloth rather than leather/Alcantara mix.

Spoiler too is the same however unpainted.

I really do miss the fuel economy...

Would crack 100 downhill at a real push but felt uneasy at those speeds.

160mph from 75 Bhp dream on - lol

yeah seems funny to me too...

but it did have 160 on the clock which seems a bit much for 106 top speed.

and the insurance being a lot dearer .

i have a normal mk1 clio 1.4 now insured with norwich union for £750 and they wont touch me on the new car. seems funny to say some of the quotes i was getting, 2.0 focus for £968, a3 1.8sport for £1060 now cheapest is £1211 for a 1.4sport clio :S

I used to wack my registration in and get 172 details up on those online quote thingies!

  Lots of Alfas

Thers 2 version of the Clio 1.4 sport the S and Si the S is 1.4 8v and insurance group 3? The Si is 1.4 16V and is insurance group 5.

For some reason, when I put the registration of my 172 into insurance quotes I get a "1.4 Sport" coming up and giving me ridiculously low insurance!

Yep, Ive got the 1.4 8V kicking out 75Bhp in my Alize(same engine as the 1.4 Sport S). Doesnt set the world on fire but its not too sluggish. Speak to EvilJohn as he has a 1.4 Sport S - Im sure he will give you advice if you have any questions about the car.

Other stuff I can say about the car is that the equipment is good - You have alloys, colour coded mirrors over my car but I think you also have the following spec similar to mine: air con, electric front windows, sunroof, front fogs

performance: 0-60 about 11-12 secs, top whack (down a hill!) 117 mph, mines has 160mph on speedo too but sadly does nowhere near this!!

Hard to put into words , AWESOME - MEGA - Unbelievable just dont sum it up I can drive hard into corners and know it will go round (could do with better tyres) very impressed and think it will get better when i replace the shocks

  850 T5. mmmm Turbo!

if your 8v is anything like me 1.4 16v then its as fast as any warm blooded 17-20 year old needs to go. cheep to run, you dont have to worry about people trying to steal it, insurance sounds a bit harsh, im paying about £700 with 3 years no claims, and i live near a slum (doncaster) which effects the price big time.

my advice: get the phase 2 if you like the looks, they have better interiors and i personally think the mods available are better if your into that sort of thing. i was looking at a similar car () in black but found a 51 plate for the same price!

id liken the 1.4 to the fat kid in the class. its not the puny kid everyone picks on (1.2) its not the popular kid (182) . BUT no one fights the fat kid, they have nothing to loose! (no offence to our big boned brothers, do i sound crazy? )

phoned up asda, all is fine now i suppose.

apart from i didnt know what my car was.... she couldnt find it.

she said it was a cliosport 1.4 with no 8v or 16v on it........

what insurance group is the car then..

its a 1.4 sport s. dunno about what valve though, cant find it anywhere

  Polo + Micra

if its an s it will be 8v

(if you pop your bonnet it might say on the engine somewhere)

  172, Tiguan

My Alize was a 16v, 98 hp. Went quite well, seemed as quick as most of the repmobiles out there.

READ the previous posts mate! s = 8 valve! ;)

things start to go wrong at about 30,000 miles, I had to get rid of my 1.4 sport at 38000 miles and now have 182 with cup extras, shame.

Had the 1.4 s for 5 years, great car, especially for a younger driver where insurance can be a killer. Check for any oil on the engine around the cylinder head and try to take it for a test drive and make sure the steering isnt shaky.
The tracking tends to go at around 30000miles and its a nightmare getting it fixed to perfection.

ive got a mk1 phase 3 clio s (1.4)and on the registration documents it reads clio sport (far from it in performance figures)!good extras tho!

Yep deffo 8valve and group 3 insurance with 75bhp.

Your right about the seats, exactly the same as 172 except cloth, Ive now got the 172 in it anyway! Best mods Ive done are the interior, 15s with f1 tyres and the noise from my pipercross ik, soon to be lowered as well by 40mm.

Problems Ive had are both cv joints went, wishbone bushes so changed both units, exhaust fell off within 24 hours of it blowing! Considering how hard I used to drive it, it really has stood up very well. Now getting 40mpg pretty much all the time, very cheap to run thankfully.

BTW on a very slight incline on the M8 got it to an indicated 125mph!!!!!!! Only the once though! Also ran a 17.7 second 1/4mile at Crail.
